drinking issue

Has anyone ever seen a goat drink water like a dog? I have a young buck that I have noticed standing at the water bucket for a long time. When I observed him I noticed that he drinks with his tongue like a dog. Could he have a problem or has anyone seen their goat ever drink like this? It seems that he is getting enough water, he is not dehydrated or doesn't appear to anyway.

I have 1 or 2 that do this to check out the water level and then some such the water down and some lap it like a dog. Have you checked the roof of his mouth to make sure his soft pallet is all together? Some say if it isnt all there this could cause it as they cant get a good suction to suck water. I have checked mine and they are fine, just lazy. Did you bottle feed this Buck? When some people have bucklings they pan feed milk and this is the way they learn to drink it. Just shooting out ideas for you to check.

I have one that will do that if you put water in your hand.

Has he always drunk like that? If not, I'd check for swelling, pain in the neck, or inside the mouth for anything amiss. Lapping is not the usual but based on the answers received not unheard of. Personally the only time I've seen it is when there was a problem.

I can't find anything physical wrong with my goat, I looked and felt inside his mouth it all looks normal to me. I have to wait for the kid to get home on his Christmas break to ask him if the goat was bottle fed. I really don't think he was because he wouldn't have had the time to do it being in college in VA. Don't you think that if he had a physical problem that he would have trouble eating too? I have observed him eating but doesn't seem to have a problem
