New buck

Well, we bought a new buck after losing our little star a couple weeks ago. We should have some kids out of him from our older does, but the younger ones had not been bred yet, so we needed another buck asap.

We had 2 choices in our price range and within a reasonable distance to drive. One was a nubian that the owner knew nothing about. She said she was fairy certain what farm he came from, but couldn't tell us anything about his lineage. He was well put together, but had short ears for a nubian, I questioned whether he had some alpine in him, but that wasn't as much of a problem as not knowing anything about his parents.

The other was a registered saanen whose dam was on site and was milking a gallon a day on her first lactation. The price difference was $25. It was a no-brainer.

All of my young does are nubians, so it looks like I will have some snubian kids in the spring!

I don't have his registered name or number in front of me right now, but I would be interested to do a more through analysis of his lineage if someone could instruct me how. Do I need to be a member of ADGA to do that?

You do not have to be a member to do it. All you need is either his reg. name, or better is his #. When you get on the home page, scroll down on the left you will see pedigree search in blue. Click on that. Then click on pedigree and follow the instructions. You can click on his name when it pops up to get his lineage.

Haha! My boyfriend and I drove an hour and a half with him in the back of our jeep liberty, and the little guy didn't make a SINGLE sound, just looked out the window the whole time! I said, only half jokingly, "ok, let's start breeding the nubian out of the herd!"

Whenever we've transported the nubians in the back of the jeep, they have SCREAMED constantly, we can barely stand it! Granted, he stinks to high heaven, but he's so quiet and agreeable compared to all the others!!
