ADGA Pedigree Search

In another thread, LoneStrChic and I were going back & forth about pedigrees, and wondering if any of our goats had ancestors in common. We were discussing the South-Fork lines in particular.

I spent a very interesting half-hour perusing the pedigrees, and found out that my Happy Face and Fairy Tales also have South-Fork Toi Dancer in their pedigrees, as well as two other South-Fork ancestors. (We were originally questioning my Ozark Highlands Toi Dancer's pedigree.)

Nothing earth shattering or breaking news, but interesting - to me, anyway.

I acquired a doe that was suppose to be 10, upon looking at her reg. number, she is actually 14, going on 15...

The www.adgagenetics.org website is truly one of the great resources we goatkeepers have.

You can trace pedigrees back as far as you want, look up USDA production and type PTA's. Look up the goats actual milk records for each test day. Find all the linear appraisal scores, and even look up the progeny of the animal to determine if they have the desirable characteristics of the parent.

I use to do that all the time with the shelties and collies. Once I find a few hours (I get into it) I want to do it with Cherry. Just gotta find that free time.

I love the ADGA pedigree search. But I also have a goat pedigree program on my computer that a friend made for me. All the ND's we've owned from over a decade back have been researched and records carefully kept. It's one of my treasures!

It's fun digging through pedigrees to see what's back there

The spelling of "Toi" on your girl was what made me think we might have related goats.....Need to pair my boy with your girl & keep a doe out of it Wish you were closer!

I really enjoyed browsing your website. You have some really lovely goats. I really like the NDs and the Minis over all the other breeds.

You're right! That would be a great pairing. However, YOU live too far away from ME!

I know the ADGA office is busy, but I wish they were more timely at responding. I sent off for a reg. cert 2 months ago and when I finally heard anything on it, I missed the horn type, so I emailed them the correction and have yet to get anything back from them. But not to hijack, I do like the pedigree search. It has been a good way for me to learn about my animals!

Dustin, they ARE awfully busy. Once you get the hang of filling out those reg forms correctly, things seem to go more smoothly. A politely inquisitive phone call can get good results, as I've found.

ETA: I normallly get an email when current paperwork is finished, and receive the cert in the mail a few days later.
