what's a perfect starter flock?

Went to meet the goats and sheep today

and therefore moved one LARGE step closer to goats and sheep moving in

fibre is my main goal ... was thinking 2 angora does, 2 shetland sheep (they all lve together right now) and 1 pygora wether to start .. then I can add a pygmy buck some day and away I go ... what do you think???

honest input truly welcomed - if it's too many too few whatever let me have it!

What are you using the fiber for? And can you mix the sheep & goat hair?

I really have no idea. My few cashmere goats don't give a lot, though they have the cashmere hair they are not a fiber breed.

I wouldn't want a pygmy buck... you'll be diluting that pygora fiber quality even further by adding in a 'normal' coated buck. I'd either get pygora does and bucks, or get angora does and a pygmy buck to start - then get a pygora buck to use on the future generations. If you want fiber, breed fiber to fiber. If you breed pygora to pygmy, you're getting an animal that's 75% pygmy and you're moving away from fiber production as you do that.

aye - that's why I thought I'd go for 2 angora does (the pygora is a wether - he's darling! a wee tiny angora goat look alike)
I suspect they'll be bred to an angora goat (if they aren't already)
