Milking again and it feels so good.

It seems like it has been a long time since I got to milk everyday. I have two first fresheners. A LaMancha purebred with those itty bitty teats and a grade LaMancha with nice big handles.
I milk once a day as that is about all my pathetic arthritic and carpel tunnel damaged hands can do for now. I get 2 1/2 quarts total and it tastes wonderful. Just like milk!! LOL I have made 2 batches of buttermilk and one batch of soft cheese.
It is my favorite time of the day, just me and the girls, lots of peace and quiet as I lean against their flanks and milk into the bucket. My son helped me construct one of my famous tarp and cattle panel milk barns. Just in time for the cold weather and maybe some rain?
But for now I can forget about the drought and no hay, and forget about the economy and no jobs. It is just Eunice and Ivory and me having our morning meditation, life is good.

I know what you mean. Someone here once said "Milking is my Zen time." I quite agree.

I get sad just thinking about drying my girls up before they kid. It snowed last night while I was milking and both the girls and I were shivering. DH looked at me and asked incredulously if I really enjoy this. I just sniffed my runny nose and said duh.

I totally agree. Before we got dairy animals I thought milking would be just one more obligation in an already maxed out day. But it's not. I look forward to it eagerly and have to watch myself not to milk "just a little early" because I can't wait to go hang out with the girls.
