Spay Neuter clinic opinion on breeding my goat

I ordered my meds for breeding our goat Kissee through my sister who is a vet tech. She and a couple of vets founded a low cost spay neuter clinic in Indiana. They apparently had a lengthy discussion about whether or not they should allow her to order the meds knowing I was breeding her.

They did (just picked them up) and she tells me they gave her the ok because unlike dogs there aren't a bunch of stray goats recklessly breeding in the streets.

I just got a kick out of that. Sort of imagining animal control getting calls of random vicious headbuttings and garden damage by stray goats

I wonder if the goats will hit the pot gardens first?

Occasionally my goats tend to hang down by the neighbors side (they are far enough away I am not worried about them eating it) but I have heard they like it!

I don't get it. What meds did you order for breeding and what is the relationship with breeding your goat and spaying?

Maybe I should get some more coffee...

My sister is a vet tech, she ordered the meds for me as a favor. The clinic she works for had to approve the meds, but just the fact the meds are used for breeding sparked the conversation

I don't understand why you'd need meds to breed goats. They seem to do a pretty darn good job with no help. I don't see why a spay clinic would object to you breeding goats though....I don't see many stray goats wandering the streets.

There are always rabid vets/clinics/rescues that thinkg breeding ANY animal is terrible horrible awful. Especially if you're going to MILK the goat or eat the babies! OMG!

Have they thought through to the part where in the absence of breeding animals they would be totally unemployed in about 20 years?

I do have issues with people who just keep letting their cats have kittens. We got our cat from a "free kitten" sign, and the same sign was up again the next year. It was actually our second "free kitten" sign. the first one led us to a house with cats that were matted, balding, scrawny, smelly and scarred. I've since realized that that house has "free kittens" about every 8-10 weeks. At least at the second house the momma cat looked healthy and well fed.

Meanwhile the feral cat population around me keeps increasing and I end up with vet bills from wild (and I do mean wild! we tried to tame some of them) cats that attack mine. The owls and coyotes keep them down some, but not enough.

the meds are BoSe, ivermectin, cd/t and then to have on hand naxcel, cmpk and banamine

there's nothing wrong with her. Just trying to do right by her by getting her wormed and up to date on everything before she goes to the breeder.

the spay/neuter clinic is just dog and cat. but they are generally anti-breeding. Sorry I thought it was funny, I guess you had to be there

LOL, I hope none of those vets sees an escaped goat wandering around. I can hear it now, "I'm sorry, but we can no longer order you meds for your goats since you breed them. I saw a stray goat the other day and I just know that we are about to have an epidemic of over populated stray goats running all over the place."

It shows just how disconnected people are to their food!

I breed cattle, poultry and goats.

I founded and run a horse rescue that does most of the work in the
Tristate area of WV, KY and Ohio. . .
I also happen to own a stallion we invested a lot of money in before the horse market totally tanked, and "some" people have a hard time, even though we do not breed him. . .
accepting that we even have him on our farm. Nuts.

I am a big advocate of spaying and neutering pets - key word is PETS - (cats, dogs)
not breeding pet rabbits, ferrets, chinchillas, etc. . .

SINCE I rescue horses and some cats and dogs, there are always nuts on our active facebook Rescue/Farm page that go wild that we breed livestock. . .

No matter HOW MANY times it is explained - how unalike the pets verses farm markets are. . . I and others can get no where on the subject.
