I built my own goat stand

... yeah DH has planned on making one for me since I got our goat Mocha bred...now the doeling has come but the poor guy(dh) is as busy as busy gets, he really rarely stops working hard for his family, so since he has been unable to get it done..... I did it!

LOL Its really not much to look its primitive and basic at and it needs a little tweaking (it is slightly too tall for my nigies) and paint but I made it outta spare wood and a recycled pallet and I did it ME! I have been collecting pallets from local businesses (with permission) for making a winter barn and this piece seemed ideal. I imagined a goat stand the minute I spied it next the the dumpster.

Its funny how my capable husband has forgotten how to cook for himself and is totally helpless will literally NOT EAT, unless I make him something, and I am the same way about things designated as the "MANS" job, helpless even though I was a stage techie and built walls back in high school. I have broken the cycle! I am capable again....

I'd be SO proud of myself if I put something remotely close to that together - nice, nice work! Way to go!

Woo-hoo! That looks perfectly functional.

I guess you better get cracking on that winter barn next.

Thank You I am feeling very proud of myself at the present , No one around here really gets why I'm so stoked about it, I thought folks on this board could share my enthusiasm with me.
My hubby was surprised that I did finish it since I often start things and don't finish them. Mostly because I don't have the chance I do it, I have two older girls and an 8 month old boy who keep me very busy but this project only took a couple of hours and so I was able to finish.....LOL

Great job! I was going to do something similar with a pallette and some 2 by 4's someone was tossing and some 2 by 8's I have here. I have been waiting on my son to build it, but have had more pressing projects to put him on....maybe I will try it myself too....I do have medical insurance now in case I cut any appendages off

Looks like something I'd make - a few pallets, some scrap wood, and ta da! A chicken coop!

It looks great. I like your idea for the head gate.

I need to build a stand that will hold three goats at once and I have been eyeballing some of the bigger skids that we have kicking around . . .

I was seeing goat stands around here for $70-$300 when I would see them at all, I dont know about the rest of you but even $70 dollars is a lot for me. This cost $1.50 for the eye hook, nothing for the pallet wood, $10.99 for the feed bucket and probably .30 cents for the 30 screws......

LOL @ willowynd I didnt even nearly cut off any appendages and Im clumsy...... Id say you are safe.

It looks great you should be proud! I built mine too but only because my husband isn't good with that sort of thing and my dad did remodeling work for so long that he taught me how to do basic stuff. I did end up painting mine with opps paint from Home Depot for 1.40. My wood was free from a remodeling store. You did a great job!

You go, girl!

So far, our 18 year old daughter and I have built two single rabbit hutches, one huge double hutch and a few nest boxes in the past two weeks- all out of pallets Along with my husband we built a chicken coop with pallets. Oh- almost forgot! We built the goat shed and two milk stands from pallets too.

Now.... when are we gonna see pics of that barn in progress?

Forgot to add- I bought that rubber matting by the foot that TSC sells and tacked it down on the base of both stands. It's great. Gives safer footing for the goat and protects the wood underneath. Also gives a more comfortable perch when I have to sit on the stand to milk
