LaMancha X...what kind of ears?
We picked up Terry's gorgeous buckling today, he is WONDERFUL!
Anyway, DH is having giggly fits over the ears...didn't help that I told him as we pulled into her driveway that he wasn't to pick on the little guy's ears or he'd hurt his feelings...
(Terry, I'm totally joking, we are IN LOVE, this baby is SOOOOO sweet! He fits right in with the girls, and he's already let them know HE is boss goat lmao)
DH is wondering about ear genes...will the kids have LaMancha ears? My does are Oberhasli for sure, maybe some Apline in them, and then my doeling is from one of the does with a reg. Spotted Nubian daddy. Her ears seem more Nubian. Is any ear type dominant?
And for those who haven't had the pleasure of seeing Terry's set-up, her goat yards/pens are awesome. DH totally fell in love with the way she has her pens, and her husband and daughter were very nice! I'm sorry we didn't get to meet Terry, but I am over the moon she was so nice and held this buckling for us, he is AWESOME!

No ears is dominant. You may get elf (little pointy ears) instead of gopher (almost none) ears.

I have a small herd of just pet goats as well as my purebreds. Many years ago a LaMancha buck came in and bred the meat goats that I had at the time. Decendants of his had elf ears for many generations. I still have a couple that are probably 1/32 or less that have either elf or gopher ears!!

Awwww! Thank you for the kind words. I am so glad you like him. He is a great little buck. I am sure his daughters will put lots of milk in the pail for you.
I only have experience with minimanchas (nigerian dwarf/lamancha) ears. I had them with gopher ears (which is what your little guy has), elf ears, and erect ears like the nigerian.

My experience - nubian and boer x's where dad is the lamancha, you get folded forward and more ear. Alpine mom, folded forward but small. And my oberhasli has been bred to my lamancha buck twice and all 4 kids had small ears with the fold backwards, so they look like little devil horns. I think if the lamancha is the mom, the ears may be different.

Mom was 75% LaMancha / 25% Oberhalsi and Buck was 100% Oberhalsi and they still got these ears! LaMancha ears are very dominant, does or bucks! I don't know why their eyes look blue by the way, must be lighting, they were regular eye color.

Lamancha crosses are soooooo fun! And I've never crossbred with a Lamancha and didn't like the resulting kids. If I think of crossbreeding any dairy breed(or Boer), its Lamancha I'd cross with. My Lamancha/Alpines are my favorite so far, but the Lamancha/Nubians, Lamancha/Saanens, and the Lamancha/Boer are great too!
These are few Lamancha crosses I've owned or bred.
Lamancha/Nubian.
Honey(7/8ths Lamancha-1/8th Alpine) and her buck kids out of a Lamancha buck. One had perfect Lamancha ears, the other had ears just like Honey.
7/8ths Boer, 1/8th Lamancha sisters.
1/2 Boer-1/2 Lamancha doeling:

I for one love everything about my lamanchas but their ears. They have the best personalities of all my goats I just can't stand the ears.

Congratulations on your new buck! I love my Manchas and think the tiny ears are the cutest. You could get everything from gopher ears to airplane ears, though it seems that that they usually get smaller ears.

My girl Prudence was half LaMancha. She was born a twin. She had ears and her brother had LaMancha ears.

Thanks for the pictures and comments everyone! Hubby's eyes got bigger and bigger as we read the thread, lmao.
This little guy is sweet, but I think he went into instantaneous rut when we put him in with the girls! (Mind you, I've no idea what rut is like, but...he's one hot to trot little goat, let me tell you what!) He's trying to mount the girls, the cow (ha, she let him know that was a BAD idea), HUBBY ( ), my tenant...hysterical honestly!
It's wonderful having him be friendly, though, after the past month or three of chasing this little Kiko/Boer mutt buckling all over the place...the only reason he isn't in the freezer right now is so the little LaMancha won't be lonely when I take him away from the girls!
