Advice for first time shower

Cherry will be in the Tulsa State Fair at the end of this month. And would like some pointers, advice, dos and donts from all that show.

How old is Cherry? Is she in milk? Do you know how to bodyclip? Is she trained to lead? Have you ever watched a show?

Yes she is trained to lead. I have been working with her everyday. She is a little over 3 months and by the time of the show will be like 5 days short of 4 months. So no she isn't in milk. I have watched them on youtube lol. Her breeder is going to shave her for me and has even offered to show her for me. Still trying to pick if I want to do that.

Yes a shower or bath would be advised before the state fair, especially a first one. Fill up large tub, removing clothing is optional as it can save a step later.... lather up and rinse off! VOILA!

Oh, wait...show er ..that I have no experience with, lol - sorry Best wishes to you and Cherry!

Watch the youth showmanship classes. You can learn a lot about showmanship by watching the youth, particularly the more experienced youth. You should show your own goat. Remember to always keep the goat between you and the judge. If you are changing sides, always change sides in front of the goat, and with your front facing the goat (don't pass the collar behind your back). If you are moving forward or back in a head to tail line, pull your goat forward out of line on the side of the line where the judge is standing and walk your goat to the indicated position. If you are moving from one place to another in a side by side line, always pull forward out of line, regardless of where the judge is standing and move to your new position. If the judge wants to compare two goats, the two goats should be in the middle and the handlers on either side.

Have fun!

Bahaha I thought of that after I posted it... went darnit not everyone talks like you Donna.

Thanks Saanengirl... I showed dogs for years so I have some experience even though they are different. I was hoping someone showed before our class but of course there isn't. Cherry's sister is in the class also so no matter what the breeder will be there. I guess maybe we can go over all of it before we even show. I am excited and scared all at the same time.

Most shows have youth showmanship first. Are you sure that your show does not? The senior youth showmanship class is where you will learn the most.
