Unhappy Help Please - Lute?

Got a call yesterday morning from the hubby.... the bucks were loose with the girls when he went out to feed

I checked tails when I got home from work yesterday afternoon and only found two that were icky. The icky-tails belong to my two Nigerian does. I have a Nubian and a Nigerian buck, so my odds are 50/50 here. Both are older mature does that throw multiples but I'm still uneasy about the possibility of them having been bred by the Nubian.

I'm just sick over this.... I've never had them escape and honestly, I don't even know how they managed it this time.

I plan to call the vet later this morning to see if he will give me some Lute for these two. So if I've done my research correctly, it's wait 14 days and give a standard 2cc Lute injection IM.... right? My vet is awesome but is really more of a horse guy so I usually collect information here and then check it with what he tells me. So far, he's been on the money.

I would even wait 21 days for the lute (yes, 2cc IM). 14 days is just the very minimum. Lute will work anytime, but of course earlier is better than 3 months along (or more).

I would wait to see who comes into heat next time 'round before luting - you may have more bred than you think. Write the date down and watch everybody like hawks. What I did last year is bring a boy over on a leash every single day to see who flirted with him.

UPDATE: I've got the Lute

So I finally managed to get Lute for my two does... it's been 20 days since the boys escaped My plan is to give them both shots this evening when I get home from work.

I HATE to give meds and especially ones they've never had before. I don't have Epinephrine on hand... have not managed to persuade the Dr into giving me that one.

SO, my question to those that have given lute in the past....

Do I need to be on the look-out for any possible side effects? Allergic reactions?

Will the girls have a discharge when aborting if they were infact bred?

Thanks in advance! You all are the BEST!

My experience had not ill side effects and did have discharge. I would expect some if they were in fact bred.

In the loin (if you can find it) or the thigh is where I give mine. When giving in the thigh, be sure to go deep muscle. You will find there is a "gap" in the back of the leg. Do not do it here, you could hit a nerve.
