Buck going into freezer
Last month, on the 24th, I was out feeding critters. Fed the Boer buck feed and hay with no problem (he tends to dislike me at times) and previous day fed him with no problem. Went to take him his water and he decided to ram me in the side of the right knee full force. He's full grown and huge! Luckily he was tied since he had escaped his pen earlier. I had to belly crawl to get out of his reach since I was unable to stand on that leg. Talk about serious pain! I've had multiple surgeries but nothing compared to this pain-wise! I was throwing up and almost passed out from the pain. The end of the femur (thigh bone) had rammed into the top of the tibia (shin bone) when he rammed the knee from the side. The tibia has a crack down it and there is a portion of crunched cartilage. Also the motion stretched the ligaments and tendons on the other side of the knee. I'm in a long leg cast from toes to 8" above the knee for the next 4 weeks then a hinged brace for a while. Needless to say the buck is going to be butchered when dh has the extra time.

hell taste better if you castrate him now if your going to wait a couple months to do him, personally being in your location id be putting him on clist for a bbq goat for those whom are of certain ethic cultures that actually like the taste of buck

So sorry to hear about your injury! That sounds sooo painful.
And this is why we always tell people - "Never turn your back on a buck!"
Glad to know you will be butchering him, rather than passing the problem on to someone else (which many do, including folks with biting dogs, but that is another post all together)!

Wish I'd gotten to eat the cow that broke my hip but we didn't realize at the time my hip was broken so she was sent off for someone else to eat. I tell you~ I was wishing for some justice when i was in the wheelchair. Enjoy that buck~ no matter how old he is he'll taste great with your pain meds. Sorry your knee is busted up. Hope you won't be down too long.

Yes that's for not passing him on to someone else. I have a crushed middle finger from a kiko buck that was crazy. Wasn't when momma bought him. Was fine until you touched a horn with ANYTHING. He became dinner for someone.

I am sending my wishes for your speedy recovery & as little pain as possible with such a terrible injury I'm sure that's next to impossible!
We had a mean buck once & we butchered him, dh said at least he'd get some satifaction from him but the meat had such a smell when cooked I couldn't stand to eat it so it ended up being dog food(we feed our dogs raw) & they loved it so at least he didn't go to waste.
Cannon Farms has a good idea though, there are some folks that like the taste of a buck & at his size you may get a good butcher price for him if you advertise.
Otherwise castrating him first is what I'd reccomend.

Backforty, dh plans on castrating him then feeding him well for a week then butchering him.
I'm just so glad dh was in the house with the 2 and 3 yr old grandkids. If dh had been at work (was home for a morning dr appt) the grandkids would've been with me and they could've been the victim.

Here's wishing for a speedy recovery. I've just started reading up on raising goats and my curiousity is peaked at how you would go about castrating an animal that large without doing damage to either it or you (or both)

You should never take children with you into a buck's pen.
So sorry about your injury.

No fair! You get revenge on your awful animal! I had to just sell the horse back to the previous owner that crippled me last year.
Best wishes on healing, hope you enjoy your goat burger!

I butchered my mean buck earlier this spring He was MEAN but thankfully was a miniature and had never hurt me severely. He broke a finger and did get my with a good butt now and then, not to mention a couple good BITES, the little snot. I can say that a .22 bullet is QUITE rewarding revenge, however. He made good jerky, despite not being fixed at time of butcher.
Hope you have a speedy recovery!
