Stud services????

Person somewhat near my area is looking for nubian buck services for their 2 nubian does.
Shaq is ADGA registered, CAE neg. BUT I am real hesitant about taking him to someone else's place for a week, they don't live close enough to be able to just pop in and check on him ...to many bad stories I have heard.
Alternatives? Suggestions? Contract idea's? Fee?

Could they bring their does to you and let Shaq do his romancing on your place? That is if you really want to go through the hassle.

I won't do it. I don't want my buck leaving my farm and I don't want other people's goats coming even if it is only for a week or so. I don't want the responsibility and I know this sounds bad, but I don't trust people to tell me the truth about their animals heath or habits. (oh that does sound bad).

Thats not the part I would worry about (but it's understandable), it's disease I'd be worried about! Ever since I came to this forum and learned about CAE/CL/Johnes ect. I wouldn't even breed my buck to anyone unless they are tested and are able to prove it!

What if her does are not both in heat that same week, he would have to stay there longer.

I rented mine out, to a lady who bought 3 does from me. Only goats at her place, I knew they were negative for diseases and it was nice to have the boys gone for a month, lol. She took very good care of them and they got the job done.
I did not like them riding in the back of my SUV though, eww.

How far away is she? Can you do a driveway breeding for her instead?
I charged $50 per doe for mine the 3rd one was free. Plus she fed them and housed them for a month.

The contract should state the fee for each breeding, what is expected of her, ie feed him such and such per day, the replacement cost of him should anything happen to him and if you are doing a breed guarantee if they do not take the first time he will be brought back free of charge for another attempt. If the doe does not take then there will OR will not be a 3rd try etc.

If you are worried about him going there I would just do a driveway breeding after you got a good look at her girls and test results.

They can use hormones to sync the does so they can be bred in your driveway as a minute man flyby.

if you are not comfortable with it then dont do it, if they are not tested that means you put him at risk plus you have the cost of retesting him

Tell them to come to your place and use him.

I've driven up to 3 hours one way hauling a doe to use a buck I wanted to use.

Considering it takes several hundred dollars a year to feed a buck plus housing even if you have to drive a few hours to use a buck it's well worth the effort.

I am considering offering my bucks for the ever classy 'driveway breedings'. There's NO way I'd ever board anybody else's goats, lease my bucks, or breed to anything not disease free. They can bring does over, show me testing results for their HERD (not just the doe in question), do driveway breeding, pay me my stud fee (thinking of asking 50.00), and go on their merry little way. They don't want to do that - that's fine with me!

I offer driveway breedings but do tell them beforehand that I reserve the right to turn their goat away depending on its looks when it arrives. I am not worried about CAE during breeding. Anything with an abcess(owners are quizzed before they come)never gets off the truck. And the animal has to be in good visual health. Keeping to this policy I've done driveway breedings for years with no problems.
I have boarded does in the past, but only ones that they bought from me. I have no extra pen for that now.
I never let a buck leave my place for somewhere else unless I sold him. Just not going to happen.
