My turn for appraisal!

Overall pleased with learning about their scores. They're by no means the best goats in the world - but now I know what I'm working with.

Kesslee - +++V, 84 (2 YO 2nd fresh)

Magnolia - +VVV 85 (2 YO FF)

Sharp Dressed Man (3/2/11 buck kid, purchased to be my herd sire this
spring, 5 months old) - VEE, overall V

Montague - +++ overall + (out of Magnolia, kept only because I needed a buddy for Sharp Dressed Man during isolation)

I just love listening to the appraiser we had, John White. I've listened to his talks at Spring Goat Day through the MDGS for the past two years. He said Kesslee lacks strength and is to refined/frail, lacks heart depth. Magnolia is stronger, and both lack perfect proportions. Magnolia also toes out and Kesslee's rear feet are messed up -though he thought for sure that she had injured one of her back legs/growth plate so that explains some foot issues I'm having on her at least. BUT, Montague has really nice front legs so I know Magnolia can throw those. He was really pleased with my Calix (sharp dressed man) because he thinks he'll bring in strength and dairiness at the same time, and has a lot of strengths that my does lack. His main fault with him is that he is TOO masculine and looks like an adult buck at such a young age. I'm VERY pleased wit how my buck did and now am VERY excited that I know what to look for in this year's kid crop. Yay!

LA's are great. Just keep in mind, it was ONE judge's opinion on ONE day. And it's awesome that you could have your buck scored pre breeding. Good luck on your kids!

And just in case some of you wondered what all those crazy numbers and symbols mean, here's an excellent resource!

Me and the host herd owner were talking about that - we think he's very tough on them but that's what we want. Knowing how tough he is, I was very pleased with my little buck.

Yes, isn't he the partner of Eric Jermain? They are both tough. A Saanen breeder friend of mine had Jermain out in June - he was tough, but he was full of information and would be great to learn a lot from.
Jim's herd scored really well, but he has been doing LA for many years, and that was my first to watch -
CONGRATS - I think those were good scores!
