Need to find home for LGD, Kansas

Zelda, 9 month old great Pyr/Anatolian cross, not spaded, female utd on shots and worming, good with dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits and goats. House trained and socialized, still a puppy so still has lots to learn. My problem with her, I live on 3+ acres at the edge of town and she has moved out from the 3 pastures and large backyard to "guarding" the front unfenced yard and sidewalk. All she does is bark at passersby and so far stays in the yard and comes back to the backyard when called.....it is just a matter of time before someone gets scared (she is a big dog) and calls the cops on both of us.
This is a heartbreaking decision for our family as we have put lots of time and even more love into raising Zelda.
Free to the right home.

So sorry for you & your family that you have to find a new home for Zelda, that would break my heart too! I wish Kansas was closer as I would take her, she sounds like a really good dog just maybe not in the right place.

Is there anyway to fence her out of the front yard?

Good luck either way!

I sure wish I could but I cannot. have a strange neighbor that seems to be a little to 'at home' at my place. my dog is so friendly he just wags his tail at the guy.

Thank you all for your kind replies. I am still trying to make her see that the front yard is not hers. She is very tall but still slender. She can and does climb over ANY fence. I have thought about running a hot wire at the top of the fence. Her best doggy buddy is a Chihuahua that I think caused some of the problems with Zelda as she(Chihuahua) can go through the field fencing causing Zelda to figure out how to get over the fence. Zelda is very smart
I think she is figuring out the new neighbors are not trespassers. She has stopped barking at them at the fence line every time they stepped outside. I am so glad I have the most patient of neighbors.
Oh I better go check on Zelda as it is mornings when she feels the need to patrol the front yard.

When we first brought one one year old trinty she kept escaping until we put a shock collar on her, and yes I put it around the entire 16 acres, and it works, you can do it yourself get We had it for our other dogs and it was the best thing I ever bought. She is scared to death of it, and now stays home, of course now she has nine little reasons to stay home.

What if you bought some inexpensive plastic bird netting and attached it to the bottom section of fence so the chi can't escape, and then put a strand of hot wire on top of the fence? I'd hate to see her have to be rehomed just because she can easily jump your fence. Most LGD breeds are known for not respecting fences without a little extra work.

We are in Kansas and would be happy to meet her to see if she would be a good fit for us. We have 17 acres, sheep and chickens.

KS isn't this the dog you got off the board because your other LGD was getting elderly? I saw a picture of her when she was a tiny fluffy thing

She is still a baby and with some training and blocking her from the front yard I bet she will do fine.

I am not sure of the width you would need to block her from getting to the front. But cattle panels work great at keeping LGD out of areas and some chicken wire Chihuahua height will keep them both away from the front yard. If you have a gate that separates front to back you can attach at cattle panel to it as well.
I have the kind that are called combo panels the squares get smaller at the bottom.

The panels are not cheap but they are cheaper then the collars unless you need 20 or more You can also check on Craigs for them and run your own ad. I knew the panels were around $20 each at the store so I see someone advertising them that high I moved on. I ran my own ad and a guy emailed me and had 14 for $2 each, I practically ran there. They make great buck pens too

I would not give up just yet I am sure you can find something that works between now and when she is totally grown and understands her role better. I bet you can also get more ideas over at the LGD forum here. Good Luck!

I used the petsafe inground system with the wire at about midway on the fence worked great for my AnaPyr and on a few stubborn goats too.
