Well it started out we put the babies up in their bay in
the back of the barn as we do every night and mama and star in
the chicken area. We noticed we smelled smoke.
We walked around a while trying to find it and within 30 min
smoke was all around us. Not having seen flames yet, but ash falling everywhere; we put all our 'hurry up and leave' things in the van and started watering around the house and the animal areas.
We decided the goats would have a better chance all in the back of the barn, being concrete and steel.
About an hr went by and the smoke seemed to be clearing, we had dodged fire again, it's been all around us this year.
We went to go retrieve star and mama to go back to their area and little machi was down. I picked him up hoping he had just been pushed over (he's slow to get up sometimes). We put the big girls away and came back to look him over closer..
Hubby noticed there was something very wrong...He was gored
A good 1.5 cups of intestines hanging out. We scrambled to try to find anything to repair it but just aren't experienced enough to take care of it. We realized just how much damage there was when we got him into the light. Hubby put him down

We will bury him in the morning.
We know it's part of 'farming', and I guess it would have been easier if he was closer to butcher age (he was 14wks, and so much smaller than the others) but we had intended him to be our eventual 'sire'...guess we never thought about loosing the little guy.
: / Lousy night.
