registration with leased buck

New situation for me. We bred several of our girls to a leased buck this year. As in the buck was brought on to our property for a number of weeks. So the buck's owner didn't provide service memos since he wasn't here.

How do I register the kids? Do we need to get a service memo from the buck's owner? Or do we register as "owned" both sire and dam?

Thanks!

You need a service memo. If you paid to lease this buck, that fee should cover his service memos.

If you kept good records the buck owner should have no problem doing service memos.

Thanks! I'm sure he will provide the service memos no problem. It was just the first time he had leased a buck out and the first time we had one in, so neither of us really knew what to do!

Which registry is this with?
If ADGA, then you will need either Breeding memos for each doe (I have used a span of dates when pen breeding for others) or another option would have been to officially "Lease" the buck. That would have involved filling out a Lease form with ADGA. The buck then is in your ownership until the lease ends. You can do as you please with the buck and the resulting kids.
Usually people just do breeding memos in this case.

That was what I was thinking - if you lease a buck, then it's like you own it for that period of time. I went on the ADGA site (yes, that's the one we are using) and found the form. I'm hoping they will take the paperwork after the fact. I can't imagine why not but I will call to make sure. This is far easier to get the buck owner to send this in than all the service memos!

Thanks!

I am pretty sure that the breeder whos buck that we used was able to do everything online. Then I got an email from ADGA with the service memo #'s, went in and registered my goats. No paperwork.

Ah yes, I wish we could do no paperwork. This is a guy who used to be big in the goat world in the early 70s. He has started up a herd again in his retirement and we've been helping him (i.e. dragging him kicking and screaming) to get used the online stuff. If he can fill out the official lease form (and the ADGA said we could do it after that fact), then I can do the rest online!

The lease form is all you need to turn into ADGA.

Give it about 1 week, and then register all the offspring on line. Love the ADGA Lease agreements!
