That's it-they are coming inside
The heat index is supposed to be 112 degrees this weekend. I am *freaking* *out* about the girls. I know y'all understand-our sunroom has a concrete floor. I can roll up the carpet and bring them in then hose it out once I send them back outside.
Would you do this? Or just hang outside with the garden hose and spray them down every half hour?

If they have shade and a breeze/fan....... I might still bring them in.
How many are we talking about?
We've had 108 and 110 heat index, and they parked themselves under the pine trees in the cool green grass. I kept cool water out for them. They panted lightly, but they didn't suffer.

I don't know. I'd be worried that the sudden change in temp and air quality might do more damage to them than the heat. I could be very wrong there, but I know it isn't supposed to be healthy for people to go in and out of AC, either.
A lot of goats originated in Africa. If they have shade and plenty to drink they might do just fine.

4 does-2 in milk, 1 doeling. I don't think I have any African goats, though. Saanens and Saanen/LaMancha crosses. Switzerland and Spain-right? I guess it gets hot in Spain ...
The sunroom doesn't have AC but I could set up fans. But we already have a drum fan on them outside so I guess it's redundant. There is shade all day long.
I'm just so worried. I know I will not be leaving their sight until the sun sets Friday night. No way Jose!

We had heat indexes of 115-118 for a few days and my goats did fine. They even laid in the sun. CRAZY!!!! I just made sure they had fresh clean water and kept a fan blowing in their pen. The horses are another story...they are taking the heat much harder..but I can put the sprinkler on them to cool them down and they love it...my goats HATE the sprinkler.

Our heat indices have been in the low hundreds, too. Just make sure they have plenty of fresh water and shade, and I think they'll be dandy.
OT but kinda related question: Why is it that my goats' appetites don't dwindle with the heat? The dogs and I can barely eat, but those caprine beauties want MORE food!

They will be fine as long as they have some shade and fresh water. My girls just head for a shade tree and lay around all day.

I would leave them outside in the shade with their fan & cool water. Bringing them inside might scare them anyways since it would be a new place to them.

Actual air temp on my back patio today was 116 and that patio is in the shade almost all day. Goats did fine. Chickens get a little sprinkler in their pen (which they love) and everyone gets fresh cold water mid-afternoon. So far everyone is handling living on the surface of the sun just fine.

Those temps have been our norm for a while
I would shave them. Doesn't matter if it's pretty, just get the extra hair off.. I wouldn't worry about their faces, just shave their bodies.
Everyone but Sabrina, one of my Alpines, is doing okay. She'll pant with her tounge hanging out & refuses to stand to drink on the really bad days.... so I make her her special kool aid and tote out 1-2 gallons at a time 3-4 times a day to ensure she gets plenty to drink. I feed REALLY early so they have a chance to eat and move about before 9am & can hunker down in the shade the rest of the day.
When its not humid, I spray them down.....Sabrina LOVES this. If it's humid, I won't soak them down as the humidity in the air makes it hard for the moisture to evaporate & they are just more miserable.
We have passed 50 days straight of no rain & temps over 100°.... I'm ready for winter!

Gotta love YouTube. Been watching videos on showing. Like LoneStrChic23 said doesn't have to be pretty. I know reds looked horrible. Kinda like he was on the losing end of a fight with a fan.

Yes! Especially white goats with pink skin. That's why I don't shave my goats for the first show in June.

My goats did fine in several HOT days - the hottest with a heat index of 110*. They mostly stayed inside in my stall that I have for them. It's mostly underground and stays 'fairly' cool. No one seemed to suffer terribly, as everybody is shaved and they just went outside for a drink throughout the day and came out to get hay in the evenings/mornings.

You sound like me, and yes, I would do just that if everything was safe for them.

When Frankie got sunburn this past spring it was horrible! I felt so bad for him and it was all my fault So I don't think I'll ever try shaving them. I'll stick to just shaving the cat
