QuickBayt

So this QuickBayt that I read about in Jyllie's thread (by the way, Jill, I am soooo incredibly sorry, what a horrible thing).

I didn't want to hijack her thread, but I need to ask, I have tons of farm cats around and LOTS of birds. This will not hurt the pets? It says something about having Bitrex or something like that in it. Does that mean that the cats, etc., won't bother it because of it being bitter tasting?

If this is true, I am going to order that $38 one. I have TONS of flies around here. They are driving us nuts this year.

we've used it for years.. never had any of the cats or dogs pay any attention to it... have had lots of baby chicks spend all day long.. eating dead/dying flies.. not a single chick seemed to be bothered at all by the QuickBayt..

which kind do you use

The sprinkle everywhere kind or do you water it down and paint areas? With as much area as we have to cover, I'm thinking the sprinkling down kind of thing would be best. Also, can you use this around the pens where calves are in, you know, with hay and stuff, and will it hurt the calves if they eat the hay with it in?

we use the sprinkle kind.. I put it out on shallow lids (I usually use old white tote lids).. we also take cheap plastic containers, punch holes in the sides, run wire through the holes and hang them from the rafters (don't put to much QuickBayt in at a time.. or the flies will pile up too deep and newly flies won't be able to get past the dead flies to eat the bait).. I've never just sprinkled it around.. the flies LOVE the smell of it and will come looking for it...

Pink sprinkle kind here, too. I tried the white powder soluble and spray kind. It caused mildew where ever I sprayed it!!!

thanks!

This is great to know! Thanks Susie, that's a wonderful idea for the traps! I love it! I could also just sit some on the ground where they are out of the way and do the same thing.

Boy I love that idea! With all the plastic boxes in our lives, its easy to let it get the flies in and just throw the thing away. That's fabulous!
