shaved the brat (pics)

Well after watching Monkey suffer in the heat and needing to learn how to shave a goat I finally shaved her. NEVER AGAIN will I do that!!! Well... at least with out having a table or help. She did great while laying on my lap. Actually went to sleep while I was shaving her. It went totally down hill when I had to do her belly and face. She looked beautiful until she totally flipped out on me, and chunks of hair went flying. After what should of took 20 minutes and a broken nose later (mine not hers. How she kicked me while laying down I still don't know). She is shaved as much as she will be done. I have learned a few things. She is way more powerful then I thought. Goats can break your nose while in a laying position. I am getting me a table if I have to build it myself and monkey is not black. I know the shave job is noooooooooo where close to what it should be for a show but I figure practice practice before I get Cherry here

Make sure you put some sunscreen on her. I use SPF70 for two or three days till she gets some hair back. They will sunburn then they will flake and look awful for a while if you don't use the sunscreen. I keep telling my wife we need a fitting stand, especially for juniors because no matter how you hold them they tend to squirm out. LOL

Lol Alice if it swells up I will take one. Right now its normal size but hurts like a son of a gun. And I was going to ask about sunscreen. Do you water it down or just straight sunscreen

Thanks Oats I see where I messed up but I do that with everything I do. I can pick apart anything I do. lol

Your shave doesn't look to bad at all.

Aren't you worried about her getting bred though being in with that buck at such a young age?

Somehow I missed reading in your first post about your nose. Ouch! I hope it isn't broken and whatever bruising there is, heals quickly.

She is seven weeks old and he has no interest in her at all yet. He is six months old and hasn't shown interest in does yet. We will be building a buck pin in the future just havn't got around to it yet.

Ouch! I hope you don't wake up with 2 black eyes like I did when I got smacked in the nose. I would hurry up with that buck pen since I read on here a lot about "mistakes" with younger does. Monkey cracks me up and I think you did a GREAT job with the shave

I think you did a great job with Monkey's shave! I can't imagine how bad mine would look if I shaved them! She looks cute with her new cut!

I just had a friend who didnt think daddies girl could breed, shes 7 months old and just delivered twins and yes, we know her birth date for a fact so please take caution.
When showing I use a #7 backwards, its the same length as the 10 forward but you dont get the choppies. All in all you did a good job, I was a dog groomer for several years and we are not even going to talk about what my first goat looked like

Oh, forgot, since she will be prone to insect bites you might want to get the horse and pony spray (thats the name) that has the sunscreen in it, or something similar

Put both on her before going outside today :-)

I've groomed many of a dog (use to show) and I will saying doing a goat and a dog is totally different. Guess we will be gettin on that buck pen sooner then we thought.
