Question Digestable Protein?

If I were to mix 50 lbs. each of the following: Barley, Oats, Field Peas and Wheat, would that make 12.65% digestable protein?

I'm really not good at figuring out the percentage of digestable protein in the feed, though I do have a chart with the amounts of each. :P

Thanks in advance.

Add the protein of each and divide by 4.
Without knowing the % we can't help you any more than that since every brand is different

Also keep in mind that the percentage will change from farm to farm, season to season, plant to plant. You really won't know "12.65%" unless you have it analyzed.

Digestible Protein (DP)

This calculated value is generated using some percentage of the crude protein value, such as 70 or 72 percent. Other laboratories may use other formulas such as:

(Crude protein x 0.908) – 3.77. The digestible protein value gives no indication if any heat damage has occurred. It has little practical value in formulating rations.

using standard tables (which is the next best thing to testing each and every kernel of feed)
Wheat figures 13%
oats figures 12%
field peas 25 %
and barley around 13%

which would make your digestible protein less than 11% if you use the above formula

I've always wondered-is the percentage given by weight or by volume?

Nutrient analysis are reported on a weight basis for most nutrients. You need to pay attention to the report to determine whether the value is reported on an "AS FED" or "DRY MATTER" basis.

I assume we want to know the "as fed" number?
