Hoop House Question?

I know I just built that lean too with wood for my bucks but now I'm going to put up a hoop house in the girls pasture area(they have wood shelters already) & have never done it before.

My question for those of you that have them is when you put in the T-Posts or re-rod how far up on the cattle panels at the corners do you zip tie it?
I have 5 foot cattle panels or 4 foot re-rod right now, which would be better.

Worried if I have too much up out of the ground & not tied flush with the panel that the goats could get hurt on the posts.

You will be limited by the tension of the hoop itself. Go as high as you can.

Or.... this happens....

Ours is not tied to the posts at all the tension of the cattle panels keeps it tight. The tarps on ours go between the panels and the posts.

Here is the one we built.

It has worked great. Now that we just have does, it has been moved to the doe pen.

Alice I got a big chuckle out of your hoop house! That's probly what ours will look like too if I don't do it right.

OBF, how many panels are you using on your hoop house?

I built a nice big one last year. Just a wind from the right direction and a little bit of snow and it flipped inside out. Looked like we had a skate board ramp in our back yard.

Their pasture has a wooded section & that's probly where I'll put the hoop house since it's shaded & they like to lay in that area. We do get alot of high winds off & on all year & alot of snow in the winter but I'll try & make the tarp really tight & will probly take the tarp off for the winter since they won't be going to that pasture during the winter months.
Going to give it a try anyways, I like my wood lean too I made for the bucks but I figure I can put this up in alot less time.

One of my panels had a funny bend to it from being hooped over in the truck. I think it created a weak spot that the wind could push out of shape. If I do it again I'll make sure they are hauled flat.

That could be the reason Manchamom. Out here in west central Kansas we get tons of wind. Without thunderstorms we can reach 30 mph sustained winds. Add in a thunderstorm and it can go up to 70 mph wind gusts.

I have 4 of them.

My recommendation......DO NOT let them have access to the sides of the hoop house!!!!

I had one that it took about 2 years before they discovered that if they put their little hooves on the sides, they could get a "foothold" ......and then they could use that "foothold" to climb up on top.......and "mash down" the top. They did not totally flatten it, but they definitely changed the shape of it.

I use 3 cattle panels.....it ends up being 7 feet wide and approx. 12 ft. long.`I use "T" posts at each corner and in the middle of where each panel contacts the ground.

This is what works best for me......the hoop house is oustide of the buck pen.

Our bucks never bothered the side of the hoop house, but when we moved it to the doe pen, we did the same as you and put it outside the pen.

My biggest worry is the kids trying to run & jump off the sides & tearing up the tarp.

We didn't have a problem with them trying to go up the sides but they had other things in the pens to jump on like the big wooden spools

We have the wooden spools, an old picnic table, set's of wooden steps with platforms at the top too so hopefully they'll be good & leave the hoop house alone!

Well it's going up this afternoon, Let's all keep our fingers crossed that it stays standing! We have some good size trees just about the right distance apart so it's going in between the tree's & then we'll use T-posts for the rest of the corners.

Your Right Alice! What was I thinking! Hahahaha!
