Time of year to butcher bucks

I have been told that the time of year that you butcher bucks will effect the taste of the meat. That makes sense to me, but I'm wondering where I should draw the line.

I've got one buckling that is older and bigger than the rest, I am going to butcher him the first week in august. The others I want to wait a little longer. They are about 6 weeks old now. I don't think they're too big to band, but the sooner the better, so if I band them I want to do it this week. Otherwise, do you all think I could wait until September or October to butcher them intact without the meat being tainted with that bucky flavor? I did an 8 month old buck last year who tasted pretty bad and thus ended up being mostly dog food. I'd like these bucklings to be food for me, not the dogs.

Thoughts?

During rut they have hormones raging, makes sense that the meat might taste off. So butchering in the fall might not be a great idea. I find that if they are calm and don't see it coming then meat is fine. We pen up two days beforehand and kill in pen quickly.
