Coccicidia round 2

Had stool samples done and three of my BB's have cocci again. Will start the corid treatment tonight but dang...what gives?

Went through a 21 day treatment that ended last week and here we go again.

Any clue what I'm doing wrong? Any suggestions? Bad luck?

Worried about thiamine defenciey(?)

Thanks,

Chris

What are you using, and what dose?

Were you seeing symptoms?

Some coccidia levels are acceptable. The goats develop tolerance for a low level of infestation, which is normal.

Corid is for coccidia PREVENTION, not treatment. Also, Corid only kills the blood sucking life stage, not all of the coccidia (gets rid of the damaging coccodia, leaving some behind for the goat's system to build a natural residence to).

If you want a total kill you need to use sulfadimethoxine (Di-methox, Albon).

I wasn't able to get the 40% so I had to use the 12.5% liquid solution. Dose is 3.2cc per 5lbs given once a day for 5 days in a row.

Oh and the Corid causes thiamine deficiency for the parasite NOT the goat.

feeding in a way where the goats can not step on the feeders and rotational grazing are two things you can use as a preventative as well, thats all I can add as what needs to be said has already been said.
