Question Dried Flaky Teats

Suddenly my prized milker Sugar is getting dry, flaky teats. My milking ritual is clean and wipe teats with anti-bacterial cloth, squeeze out two squirts out of each teat for chickens, milk w/Udderly EZ and/or hand milk/strip (she is a very easy milker). Then I wipe with anti-bacterial wipe again or spray with Fight Bac. However, lately (and right around the time the milk started tasting goaty), her teats have started to get dried out and flaky. I have not changed the ritual in the way I milk her, so once again I am left scratching my head. Therefore, I have started massaging Bag Balm into her teats after I am done with the post milking cleaning over the past 3 days and it hasn't seemed to make a difference yet. Why would her teats suddenly started getting flaky even though I haven't changed a thing.

She did, but due to the cost, I have been forced to eliminate it until DH starts his new job.

Could you try Sunflower oil in her food then? Ask Alice if she thinks this would help if you can't buy the BOSS now.

YES! Sunflower or Canola oil. Start with a tablespoon full a day.

I use rice bran for fat & vit e now due to the cost of BOSS ($29.99 for 40lb now!) It's higher in fat than BOSS anyways.

I had dry teats with my previous udder wash (iodine wash from Hoeggers). When I got dry teats I massaged coconut oil in really well & cleaned off the excess. Works instantly!

I've been making my own udder wash for 2-3 weeks now and no dry teats at all. Haven't had to moisturize either.

My udder wash is:
3 tablespoons of Nolvasan
1 tablespoon of gylcerin
2 quarts water
