Smile Good Grief!

My "baby" Lilly is a chunk!!

Lilly is 1/2 Oberhasli, 1/2 Alpine & was born March 11, 2011 as part of triplets.

My Alpine Sabrina has been giving a consistent 1+ gallon per day while nursing Lilly 24/7 (most I ever got in one day, with Lilly nursing was 9.4lbs). This past week though I've been getting 5-6lbs from Sabrina each day.....decided to weigh Lilly to check her growth.

At 4 months old she weighs 67lbs!!!

I'm surprised by this because I haven't been as good as I should have about her coccidia prevention.... I only did her 1st two rounds (I know, I know....bad goat mommy, but it is so hard doing 5 day rounds every 21 days on dam raised kids!! ) Decided to do a round before she gets too big to hold....another reason for the weigh in today.

I think she'll definately hit breeding weight by this fall, which is great because I really wanted to breed her in November/December so if she keeps up at this rate I think I'll be able to breed her with no problems

Here is Lilly with our latest addition "Ella"...a tiny 4 month old 4th generation miniature Alpine (my latest blog post is full of pictures of her):

Heavens, she's beautiful! Big women run in our family too, Lilly, so wear those lovely curves proudly! LOL!

LOL Thanks She's definately going to out grown her dam. Sabrina is small for an Alpine, but I think she was severely stunted. She was weaned at 10 weeks old, accidently bred by a Nigerian at 4 months old & had a difficult first delivery at 9 months old....Add no minerals, no coccidia prevention & only herbal deworming during her adult life, its no wonder she's small!

Lilly definately won't suffer the same fate.... though I swear she is constantly eating!! If she's not nursing, shes chowing on grain or alfalfa pellets....when its hot she will grab a huge mouthful of grain/pellets then go lay in the shade to chew it.

They are both beautiful! She is definately going to be a big girl but by no means does she look fat, she looks really nice & healthy!

I have 1 little buckling I banded because I fell in love with him, born this April & he's a chunk too. Doesn't hardly eat any grain with his momma but he's solid as a rock & is much bigger than any of the other kids born here this spring.
