Unhappy Sad non-goat afternoon.

Just had to get this out. This afternoon I went out to feed, and Moose, my last bottle fed ewe, didn't come up. She has never met a scrap of food that she didn't like, so I went looking. She was lying by the fence next to the horse pasture, but wouldn't get up. When I tried to get her to her feet I found that she had somehow shattered her right rear leg. Not just a break, but completely shattered.

I didn't have the heart to shoot her, so I called a friend and he came and did it for me.

The only bright spot is that it wasn't one of my goats. Long long afternoon. Anyway, thanks for listening.

Aw I am so sorry. I can't picture that with one of my babies. I know I couldnt personally shoot mine even though I know its for the best when stuff like that happens. Hope your night goes better and again sorry for your loss.

Awe. I'm sorry. A beloved animal is hard to lose. Harder when you have to make the decision yourself. Peace be with. She'd understand. She would.

I'm sorry for your loss, and I sure do understand. I had a milking doe with a shattered hind leg earlier this spring, and had to shoot her. It was HARD TO DO. (((hugs)))

I am so sorry, that is heart breaking for any of us when something happens to any of our animals! I'm sure alot of us here know just how hard that was for you & I would have proble had to have someone shoot her for me too. I always talk tough but when it comes right down to it I don't think I am really!
Sending Hugs your way too!

I'm so sorry! It always hurts when we have to make that decision, but you did the kindest thing for her.

So Sorry! Our Polypay ewe did that as well/ Our neighbors dog was chasing her and she stepped wrong and it shattered. It was so horrible. I completely understand how you feel. Big hugs! I feel for you.

Thanks so much everyone. I have no idea of how she did it. There wasn't a mark on her, just the leg from the hock down was like jello. It didn't even seem to hurt her! She just couldn't get up and stand. She weighed nearly 200 pounds so there was no way for her to walk or stand. I gave her her favorite "stolen" meal of the horses sweet feed, and she ate every bite before we put her down.
