4-H Question

My daughter wants to take a couple of goats to the local 4-H fair next year. We are new to goats as well as 4-H. She just turned 10 this year. My biggest question is do the goats need to be registered to show or does that matter in 4-H?

There are no requirements for registered or not. Just scrapie tag ID.

My son is now 11, we just started this year and are realizing it's alot of work but I think it's great for him. He HAS to feed and exercise his lamb 2 times a day. It's not easy

You should check with your extension office about the rules for your specific county though.

Good luck!

Market Meat Goats shown in 4-H must be under a year of age. I'm not sure about commercial dairy goats.

check your extention office, or get ahold of the local club leader. the dairy goat will need to be shaved, every inch of them. and I get an extra pen so I can keep the next herd away from mine, so I dont' have to worry as much about passing cooties and we keep our area tidy, and have a place to sit ourselves too.

your goat will be put in whatever class its age is. I believe there are classes for all ages of dairy goats.
