Your does are BEAUTIFUL!

I wish I lived closer to all you wonderful folks! I don't need a Saanen buck but I sure WANT ONE NOW!

Oh wait a tick.... It's probably safer (for my checking account) that I don't live that close!

Beautiful girls and beautiful udders in both threads, Camille!

But you HAVE caused me to think.... "Maybe I ought to get a milking machine?"

You see, long, long ago, I had very average producing, crossbred Nubians.

Then, when I got back into goats, I went with Nigerians and Miniatures.

I added a couple of VERY average producing Nubians for a while, when I needed the extra milk.

But now, I have a herd of Alpines that I have stuffed my brain full of information about, and that I am looking forward to breeding for the first time this year and it JUST occurred to me:

"Wow, my girls are from great lines, all focused on production, and they are probably going to have udders similar to that."

Then, hot on the trail of that thought came:

"Holy Milk Bottle, Batman! How long is it going to take me to HAND MILK out that much udder?!?!?"

Maybe I had better start thinking about that. Ummm, Camille, do you hand milk out that udder and, if so, how long does it take?

CalliAnn, you made me LAUGH OUT LOUD! That much udder is why I love my minis. OW, hand cramps!

Camille, she IS gorgeous, and if I were younger and wanting lots of milk, I'd do anything to get a doe or does from that line!

Not as long as you'd think. I have a Saanen/Alpine cross with a lovely udder and teats. She was making 12 pounds at peak as a FF. Took about five minutes to milk!

I'm really falling for the white girls.

BEAUTIFUL animal! ^^^^^

Gorgeous Girl, Camille!

And honestly gals -- I imagine that Camille's girls milk out just as well as ours do, and I can hand milk out an 18# a day milker about 5-6 minutes ;-)

I'm telling you, Patricia, that buck's breeding and PTA's are awesome I brought down to you - I can't remember which dam he had - but Eric Jermain - the ADGA LA guy - loved Jim's herd.

Tracey, I have got a LOT of your lines in my new goats. One of my does has your Italian Ice as a grand dam!

When I went shopping for Am Alpines, I concentrated on your lines, Jobi, and Pearl Valley.

~grinz~ Which is why I was thinking about those huge udders and production! I have NEVER milked an 18# a day udder.... the best doe I ever had was 8 1/2 lbs a day.... so naturally, now that I have invested in all of these good lines, I NOW wonder, "Ummm, am I going to be spending 6 hours at a time in the milk room next spring?"

Thank you! (need the blushing emoticon )

And yes, our girls take about 5-6 minutes to milk out. Gotta love nice big orifices and great letdown!

Oh well how cool! I was just planning Italian Ice's fall breeding, lol! My yearlings generally do at least 8# (and some do 13#!) so you should certainly have some milk coming your way!

But like Camille says -- big orifaces and great letdown! A good milker will just let you have it all -- and my entire family can milk faster than the machine
That said, once we are milking more than 8-9 does, we let the machine do most of the work.

I can milk pretty fast, but I don't think I could milk out an 8-9 lb a milking doe fast than a machine - I see I need a lot of improvement - hee hee!

That's one of the things I DO like about my minis...I can look really hard at their udders and they let down...and for minis, they have great orifices.

(One of my does takes me about 3-4 minutes to milk out and the other takes about 5-6 minutes...HOWEVER, the first doe, if I use the Maggidan's, at the least bit of suction milk just POURS out and she takes maybe a couple of minutes, tops. The other one takes 5 minutes, whether she produces 4# or 6#, by hand or with the Maggie's.)

However, I AM looking forward to Lulu (my doe that has your I-I as a granddam) freshening next year, as well as my Jobi Brightly daughter! ~beams~

I will tell my DH that once we are up to 8 does in milk, he has to buy me a milking machine!

Still have Tabbitina's and WinCharmer's buck kids available...!!!

The transporter is leaving WA on July 16th, so "time is of the essence" to make travel arrangements and get health certificates etc. Please let me know if you are interested.

Thank you.
