Looked at the calendar

And discovered that we have less than a month to finish getting our 4-H goats ready!
Any tips? They have been exercising themselves, so they are in pretty good shape, but Andy does not walk any faster than she wants to. (e.i. stroll along, nibble a plant here, stop and watch the clouds there,) and I was thinking that if goats are anything like humans, if you want them to get in shape, they have to walk a tad faster than normal. Maybe a treat in the back pocket would help. like stick a nice big weed in the back pocket and let her nibble as we walked. This is our first year with goats and 4-H, so I am a little naive.

Are you wanting to get them in shape physically or behavioraly?

They are good as far as behavior goes, just physically. (BTW, they have an old pickup topper to climb on, and their pen is on a small hill.) Just need help getting her to walk and seeing if I am forgetting something. Thanks!

make the feeders raised and put blocks under it so they have to stand uphill to eat, that helps build the rear and chest some.
You want the goat to walk their shoulder to your leg, so the back pocket thing wont work however one of my favorite tricks is to rub you fingers in grain or something interesting for a goat and when you have to stop for the judge you can almost stack them just by showing them your fingers and letting them smell and lick them. Wiggle them so they stay interested in your fingers and not whats going on and typically youll have the best behaved goat there.
