Eureka!

So yesterday Popcorn got diarrhea from eating too much grain and I went into panic mode. She has always had a bowl of grain available 24/7 she just normally nibbles hear and there, yesterday she ate most of the bowl. She had her 2 CDT shots and had 2 rounds of Corid so I was at least hopeful of a better outcome. Her temp was normal 102.5 and she acted find. I tried some of the stuff the vet recommended for Spice and no luck. In the middle of the night I woke out of a sound sleep and thought what about a BRAT diet like we give to kids. It worked!!

I made a pot of brown rice with nothing added and they gobbled it down, I gave them a piece of WW toast and it is gone, same for the Banana. Now the diarrhea is GONE and she is looking good. Completely back to normal, good gut sounds and good color. YEA!!! happy dance happy dance!

So while it may not work for every situation it is worth a try if nothing else is working.

Also I don't remember who mentioned it but the cheery syrup for snow cones is an awesome way to get ANY meds down. My goats LOVE it. THANKS !!

So glad she's doing better today & the diet worked for her. I don't think I'd leave grain out for them 24/7 though. I'd try leaving some alfafa pellets out for them all the time & see how they do with those & just feed the grain in the morning or evening or a little each time.

Leaving grain out 24/7 in not a normally accepted goat husbandry practice. Leaving ALFALFA pellets out and leaving hay out is.

Glad she's OK!

They have have timothy hay and a bowl of alfalfa pellets 24/7 too and a bowl of minerals and a cat bowl of baking soda. Being bottle babies they rarely eat any of it. Usually they will come by and take a small nibble in the morning then wander out to eat the blackberries and other brambles. the bowl of grain is a small dog bowl I refill it maybe every week. So it is not very much that they consume. For some reason she devoured it all of a sudden and it was enough to upset her tummy.
She is back to just nibbling a few pieces here and there.
