Pictures-- Goats and horses, oh my!

First, the goats!

Most of the herd. In the background, you can see my upside-down shed and some of the damage the tornado and windstorm did. We're still cleaning up:

The two brown ones are the new girls.

I've named this one "Nipper" because when she gets into political quarrels with other goats, she bites them:

This is a not-so-good pic of Yaiza with Popper. But for future pics, Nipper has the red tag on her collar and Yaiza has the white tag on her collar:

Now, more goat pics of the herd having a BLAST on their first day back out into the browse!

Those are the new pics of the goats!

The Sangau girl that has gotten so big is Bamboo. The little Cou Clair girl is Lulu-Belle. The black and white doe is Mardi Gras, a mini Nubian; and the Cou Clair mini Nubian doe is Brie. The white boy in the background of one pic is Ash. Alder had decided to go wandering off into the yaupon, so he isn't in these pics.

Next post, horses!

This is my rescue gelding from LAST year, Chato. He's a permanent member of the family here, and is 6 years old now:

This is Chato and Luna, the gray mare. Luna came from this most recent acquisition of rescue horses, and will be staying. Luna is 12 years old:

This is the new filly, whom we have decided to call "Truffle". She is 18 months old and, as of this morning, measured 15.3 1/2 hands high:

Not great pictures of her, I know, but she is still trying to figure out if she wants to eat all that grass more, or run around playing like the youngster she is. She is VERY gentle and sweet.

Thanks so much everyone!

What scares me the most is that, according to statistics, and her lankiness, etc., unless something weird happens, Truffle will likely mature at around 17 hand high!

Anyone have a stepladder I can borrow for mounting?

It's clear you have all your stock in great condition and your pictures are outstanding. The pasture pictures remind me of when I lived nearby years ago. Just driving around on the back roads one day, I counted 18 whitetails and one huge elephant looking into an upstairs window of a two story home...Glen

You saw an ELEPHANT? Out HERE? ~sighs wistfully~ I wish I could afford an elephant.

Highest count of whitetail I have had, so far, between here and town, has been 43. Highest count of Piney Woods Rooters has been 19.

Thank you for the lovely compliment on my stock. The filly is a bit on the skinny side, even though she is growing. However, generally it only takes a month on this place to see improvement in physique and temperament. Critters on this property tend to get fat and people friendly.

Katie, that patch on Yaiza is auction glue. There was a paper tag with a number there; I managed to get the tag off, but not the glue. :

Thank you everyone! Have I fulfilled my pictures of critter quota? Otter still hasn't popped up to let me know she believes in the new filly.

I'm here!

She's gorgeous, and yes will be at least 17hh. Don't worry, the view from up there is great. Do you know why they breed TBs that tall? So it is easier to do THIS

Don't worry, Jill can hook you up with an English saddle and I give lessons

All your critters are gorgeous!

We have been thinking dressage... I am too old for the Hunter/Jumper stuff. Nowadays, a fall might break something important. Besides, I already have a nice, comfy dressage saddle.

DH prefers those barcalounger saddles that are so popular around here, but truthfully, all the do for me is give me blisters in embarrassing places. I always rode bareback before, but i am discovering that I am too old for that on a regular basis also. SO....

Myself, DH, and ALL of the horses are getting lessons in dressage AND driving.

Very nice!
I love dressage. More boring then watching paint dry to see someone learn/compete at the lower levels but SO fun to do! The most wonderful feeling when you get something just right.

But I have to say, never too old for a little jumping. Just look at Ian Miller! 64 and planning on next year's Olympics.

~laughs~ Otter, I tended to get tossed off on jumps BEFORE the arthritis set in, I certainly don't want to try it NOW! It is different for someone who has done it all their lives and is just continuing to do it....most of the last 20 years of MY life has consisted of an office, desk, chair, and computer!

Nope, I am more of a stroll along, Sunday mosey ride/drive kinda gal. I LOVE driving; I even did it for a living in Denver for a year... taking tourists on historical tours.

I want to do the dressage because getting the basics down makes riding more comfortable and enjoyable for me AND the horse...but don't even THINK that I am going to be competing in ANYTHING like that. My idea of a neck-in-neck competition is a heated debate at the dinner table over who gets the last drumstick.

Lol.... we were flipping channels one day and DH found a dressage show on TV. It's horses, so it HAS to be good, right? He sat and watched for 10 minutes or better and finally turned to me and asked "So, when are they getting started?"

He thought it was a warm up
