Carrots as goat wormer?
I got a new goat yesterday and the person said that carrots are a natural goat wormer, a bag of carrots per week. Is this true?

I cant think of any properties of the carrot that would qualify for this statement. However get a fecal done before and then after and without using anything else you will find out....

Probably good for them and may help keep them healthy and provide nutrition that helps their immune system function well, but I don't think it's going to be all you need for sure!

They may really like to see you coming, but you will still need to worm strategically.

Sorry Just not true. My girls get them.... along with snow peas, apples, oranges everyday, and I still have to worm and check fecals regularly.

Since the people you bought the goats from don't worm, the first thing you better take care of is that. What else did they tell you??

I wouldn't trust carrots to worm my goats. I'd get a fecal done & worm with the appropriate wormer.
Where's pictures of the new goat? We love pictures!!

Yeah, where are the pictures!? Ooops, I am kinda late with pics too, so I guess I can't say anything about that.
Never heard of carrots being a decent dewormer. Ceder needles are a CONFIRMED natural dewormer...and my goats love them and eat them regularly...and I STILL have to do fecals and treat for parasite load. Therefore, I am doing a thumbs down on the carrots as natural dewormers.
I have dug around for scientific studies on natural dewormers, and never found a mention of carrots. Betacarotine, the precursor for Vit. A and the most widely examined component in carrots, has not been found to have an effect, either good or bad, on internal parasites in the studies that I have found.
I can't even call that an old wives tale...as those are generally something well known. Individual delusion from that particular person, maybe? Kinda like all those people that think that colloidal silver will cure everything from the common cold to breast cancer?

Have never heard that one before, pumpkin seeds are suppose to be, but have never heard carrots are. > Marc
