My three packgoat wethers were disbudded poorly as babies. All 3 developed scurs. What a mess. I've had 2 of them in to the vet to be anethsetized and have the scurs sawed off close to the head. One has a scur growing back that may have to be cut off again. The problem with scurs is that they grow all weird and ugly, twist around and back into the head or the eye, etc., and can get knocked off leaving a big open bloody wound.
It's my understanding that if the scur is not attached to the skull it can be completely removed and then the skin sewn shut. If the scur is attached to the bone it can't without opening a hole in the skull, which is dangerous. If you can wiggle the scur, it's not attached to the skull. If you can't wiggle it, it is.
Scurs suck. If I had it to do over again, I would take them to a vet and see about having them removed surgically when they are still small.
