Goats Break the Rules (suprise!!)

Two of my four milkers, a Saanen and a Lamancha, did not get bred last fall/winter. I was having trouble finding a buck and when I found him, he was too young/short to get the job done. I have researched how to get them to come in heat off season, but it sounded like too much work. So I've just been milking them through. Today, when I came home from work Cookie and Opal were acting funny,so I put them in the other pasture with some hay and went inside. When I next went outside, Action Jackson, the buck who was too short last year, was doing THE WILD THING! Yes , 104 degrees and he took them both on.So much for seasonal breeding. And I think I saw all three of them laughing.

I'm really wanting some of my girls to come in, so there will be Dec babies. The buck(s) are stinky & ready, but no signs from the does yet.

OP, your buck may have been too young last year, but I doubt he was too short. I breed full-size LaMancha does to a Nigerian Dwarf buck (for mini Manchas) and he always gets the job done.

Nehimama, you might keep an eye on Tally. BigWig was already getting stinky and she had heats the last two months she was here and spent time flirting and flagging at the fence with BigWig.

It is likely the unseasonably warm weather that is throwing does into early heats.

Yup, I noticed yesterday that Hondo is starting to get a bit fragrant already. I'd be thrilled with December kids here so I'd have an uninterrupted milk supply.

Oy! Ours isn't stinky yet. Not looking forward to an early long rut in this heat!

Both of my older boys have been starting to apply their "perfume".
