Question stud service help

I am trying to figure out a price to charge for stud service on my boer buck, he is 5/mo old tomorrow. He is War Paint, Eggs, Mbili Sa, Gauge, Agnew, Dottie, Brass, TX02, Starman, Pipeline bred. 12 ennoblement's. I haven't shown him yet but I plan to! I was thinking $50 for first doe and $40 after that, or is that over priced? I've never stood an animal for stud, so I'm still learning.

Your pricing sounds about right from what I've read, for a drive by breeding. It has to be profitable and worthwhile for the does owners, yet less than the cost of keeping a buck, on the flip side it has to be worth your troubles of accomodating the doe(s) and your time. Any "if this" or "if that" should be worked out ahead of time, especially if one or the other will be housing a rented animal, then of course there would be feed etc.

IMO, there is no price that is worth the risk of exposing my clean herd to unbknownst diseases. It just isn't worth it. I received 4-5 e-mails a year to stud out. I refuse every one of them.

To each his own.

What do the records of his parents look like? I have two young bucks (dairy) that I will be standing at stud this fall for $50/doe with discounts available to herds that participate in performance programs and additional discounts for does that have performed exceptionally well. These bucks are both out of does who have won breed leader awards in milk production, are permanent champions, and appraised excellent overall. One is sired by an Elite sire, the other is sired by the son of a National Champion.

I know that top Boer bucks can and do command higher stud fees than dairy bucks, but that is for proven bucks. I think that $50/doe is a reasonable introductory fee.

I only stand stud for people that have purchased their goats from me. If they have brought in any other outside animals I won't do it. And I still require they have their animals tested before breeding.

It depends on the buck but usually $50 with one chance to rebred if the first time didn't take. And I only do driveway breedings - no keeping the doe here, or sending my buck there.
