Moving to Iowa

Well, it seems that my family and I have come to a bend in the road. My husband just got a job in Clinton, Iowa and we are headed out there soon. I'm going to miss the goats I'm leaving behind but hope that if all goes well I'll be able to bring them to me in a year or two (or three...)

As I won't have access to their antics in person, I'll have to exist in the goat world vicariously for a bit and learning all the while. I am selling some of them to make it easier for my Father-in-law to manage them. I'll be lurking in the wings and wishing you all joy with your four-legged friends.

I live about 90 minutes south-west of Clinton in Riverside Iowa. If you need anything or I can help PM me. If you need a goat fix let me know. Iowa is a fine state to raise goats, my wife Sara and I raise mostly Boers but we have a small collection of milkers.

Thank you all so much. Right now I need the encouragement. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry right now. I'm overwhelmed, scared, excited, and everything in between. I'm sure I"ll be taking you up on your offer of a goat fix and a friendly face.

Growing up, my aunt and uncle lived in Clinton. We would visit often. Learned a few things in Clinton.

1. When you're 5 year old and sledding down by thee bridge that goes to Fulton, learn to swerve out of the way. You can NOT move the bridge with your face.

2. When going to the REO concert, hide your surprise when your 17 year old baby cousin pulls out a bag of weed otherwise she won't want to share as much.

3. Clinton's OK...but mostly because you can see Illinois from there.

Good luck, Miranda! Moving is scary!

One nice thing about this forum is when your friends move, you don't have to lose touch! I hope to continue to see you on here!

Miranda, I lived in Ames, Iowa for a while, and found that the people in Iowa are great. I'm sure you'll be fine, and get your goats back soon.

Well welcome to the neighborhood, we are just a hop-skip-and a jump across the river in Illinois. Clinton is a nice place, we shop there alot. Nice places to sightsee also, the river front is very nice, minor league ball team, thrift stores are good. Hubby working for ADM ? they are always hiring. PM us if you need help around town, >Thanks Marc

Actually he just got hired for Ashford University as a new professor in Management. We plan on renting a house for one-two years and keeping our eye out for a bit of land. He really wants to bring his horse out and I really want my goats. Knowing him he'll get his horse out there sooner than later. I am so glad that I am moving to a place with built in friends. I love the goat world.
