LaMancha buck tripping over his feet
I have a 4 month LaMancha buck that all of a sudden started tripping over his front feet. He will be walking along and it looks like to me he trips over his front hooves. Almost like they are to long. I checked his feet yesterday and noticed he needed his feet trimmed again so I brought him in and did his feet which had little rocks in them. Now his feet are all trimmed up and as perfect as you can get them. They aren't infected or cut or anything. Now I am wondering if his feet could be sore or if maybe hes not use to his new trim job (they were done about two weeks before now so they werent to long). He did fall off the front steps three days ago though so that worries me. He still eats, still gets up and walks around (not as much but could be because its 98 degrees here), still drinks and goes to the bathroom fine. Any ideas?

really that is interesting... is it a condition they get or just something that happens? He doesn't get much feed. they get about a cup shared between the two because they have so much to browse on. Me and mom were talking and she was wondering if maybe hes just tender footed? I was wondering if hes not use to little rocks we have in oklahoma. My bf just came home from work and said Louie did stand up and walk a few steps to him without trouble. I am sure everything is okay with him but he is MY baby!!!!

I don't want to be too scary - but does it look like he trips, or do they just give out? My herd queen had a couple bouts with deer worm & it is easy to treat - if you treat fast. Usually this shows up in the rear legs, but in her it was the front legs.
To treat, you just use ivermectin injected over the leg that is giving out. I would need to check dosage, etc. It is a fairly high dose over a three day period and then again ten days later....
You might check with your mom on it. Hopefully that is not it....

can you take a picture of his hooves both picked up and standing flat. You can use turpentine or hoof and heal which has that in it to toughen the soles of the hooves.

If it was deer worm, the ivermectin should take care of it almost right away. We saw an improvement overnight. Keep us updated. Got my fingers crossed that it is minor!!!!

Thanks me too. I love all of them but hes been my boy since day one. he was and still kinda is a bottle baby (only gets little water now). He is my most loving laid back one too. Nothing bugs him and as long as he can have a cheeto every once in awhile and told how handsome and good boy he is he's good with life. So him being down hurts me a little more.

deer worm takes right at a year to set up so I wouldnt think it would be that or polio but the video would help.
I have a chronically lame goat here now I am working on who so far has had 7 abcesses come out of her hooves, shes had bad hooves since I have known here and they grow funny so its hard for some one to properly trim her thus leading to the problems shes having now. She stumbles and gets down on her knees quite a bit because of the pain.
I would give him banamine just to see if its because of the pain. Once I see pics of his hooves I can suggest more things based on that and how to work it if that is the cause.

What also did you worm him with before? I would get a fecal. He could be weak from anemia. Could even be liver flukes. They usually cause the animal to be skinny, but I have had pretty bad liver flukes in a fat doe too. So anemia, weakness and lack of desire for food are your main symptoms.

Did you give it as a shot? I believe when treating for menengial worm, its the one time it MUST be given as a shot. Oral does no good for that particular worm. I think.....never dealt with it myself.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and suggestions. He was worse today so we took him in to the vets. It's worms and cocci again... they gave us sustain bolus for cocci and he said safeguard. So off to atwoods we go. Also red cell everyday along with bounce back. Cross your fingers and pray he males it. We loss the battle with our boer doeling earlier today. Again thanks for the help.

Safeguard only works for tapeworms and most likely it dont work for most areas. It wont work. My vet said that to me all the time. I always tell them wait a min and what kind of worms. They told me what kind of worms then I said no thanks to safeguard then use cydectin pour on (oral thou) and it worked.
