Question newbee goatie questions

First, I had goats before and because of my inability to keep those nubians contained in pasture ended up keeping them closely penned and on hay/grain year round. This time around I have nigerians and can keep them contained so want to make a safe and pleasant set-up for them and me.

How far apart should the doe and buck quarters be??

Can I have them close enough that I can have a shed between the two pens? Thinking about a run in on both sides of the shed for each half of the herd(currently 2 does{maybe three} and a buck with wether.) Hay, grain, milking area and kidding stall in shed. Sort of an "H" shape set up. Doe side of the "H" would be larger as that group( of course ) will grow.

How much winter shelter do they really need? Mature goats not tiny kids.

These smaller goats...I know they climb and jump but do they wiggle under fencing like a deer or dig depressions out to squeese under like a dog?

I am really thinking this through. Making sure I don't put anything where they can climb/jump onto to get over the fence. Safety is my first concern. Considering trees/branches that could fall and summer/winter sun.

Thanks for any help and further things to consider in this planning stage. bee

Yes, they wiggle under. And squeeze through the space between the gate and the post.

You can have the bucks and does in adjacent pastures, but my goats *did* have three flying sperm pregnancies last year that were unplanned due to that arrangement.

They bred through the fence, and that was the joke.

LOL!!! I figured something like that..I know "they" have tails to swim and I got this mental picture of sperm with wings and homing devices as well as "tail avoidance tracking devices"....

Here the plan is to have the width of the shed space between pens...the bucks would have to be shooting guided missles...
