Honey made a liar out of me today!

We had some relatives visit today with their children...they have a 5 & 8 year old girls and those girls just love animals. So naturally we took them out to pet our normally sweet, easy going goats. Honey is especially sweet and always the friendliest. My husband and I had just got done saying not to be afraid of her because she is the sweetest and never agressive and just what do you think happened? Honey, who was standing right in front of the little girl and hopped forward and butted the her in the tummy, knocking her down in a pile of poo!!!! Uhhhh....I hope they come back some day and I really hope that the little girl doesn't remember this forever.

Just like goats to never do what we expect them too! I'm sure that little girl will always remember but it will be something later on I bet she'll laugh about! Lots of neices & nephews come to visit here too, most are from the city so when different folks come with their kids it's like ants piling out in different directions all wanting to see the different animals we have.

Oh, dear! My youngest was butted by a pygmy at a petting zoo when she was little. The li'l goat got her right on the butt, too.

Does Honey have babies on her?

This little girl was more upset about the dirt on her hands than anything else. Later, she wanted to go back and see Honey, so her and her mom did, but thru the fence this time...and what do you know...Honey tried to butt her thru the fence...maybe Honey isn't used to a little person staring at her on her level...suprised the heck out of me.

You know, on only two occasions have my ND's ever shown their heads or reared at a human. And both times it was towards very small children (three years or younger).

Wonder if it's a size thing?

I usually arm visitors to my goats with sunflower seeds. So far so good but I'm always on the lookout for things. Right now my turkeys worry me with visitors moreso than the goats

I've known a number of dogs like this. I guess it makes sense? Had Honey been around other younger children before?

Goats are prey animals...children are the size of typical predators. They are the same size as wolves and other animals that kill goats so goats tend to be aggressive.
It is why we were never to go near a cow with her new calf when we were children.
Could also be they seemed, size-wise, like new additions to the herd, so had to be "put in their place" in the peckin order.
