Wow. Interesting day -
That little piggy doeling, Taela, is really having problems with bloat. I gave her vegetable oil & walked her around. I leashed her to my heavy metal lawn chair while I rubbed her tummy because she kept trying to get to the green plants just to the side of the porch. (By the way, we are mixing brome in with the clover now - trying to add some variety gradually. DH & DS were feeding the girls straight clover & they hadn't had any other kind of hay since our supplier ran out of alfalfa. We know better now).
While I was rubbing her tummy, I thought I smelled smoke. I thought one of the neighbors was burning, so didn't think too much of it, but when I glanced up, it looked like it was coming from my DH's office - which is another building on our property. My 12yo son was standing by me, so I told him to watch Taela and started running toward DH's office.
I hadn't gone very far when there was a huge clatter behind me. Ds yelled at me to stop and, when I turned around, Taela was running after me as fast as she could - pulling that very heavy lawn chair behind her. Ds said she took off so fast after me that he didn't have time to even grab the chair.
The chair scared her so much - it was bouncing everywhere. Poor thing! It was nice that she ran to me when I left her & when she was scared. If she hadn't been so scared, it would have been funny. She wasn't hurt and the activity helped get the gas moving - the fire was the neighbors burning- but it was still a rough morning for Taela.

WOW!! As they say, reality is stranger than fiction and that's proof. You would never hear a story saying, I was sitting with my goat tied to a lawn chair when I suddenly smelled smoke...
I hop your neighbors are okay!! Of course Teala too!!

LOL! Okay - now I am laughing! Thanks! I never thought of it that way.
The neighbors were just burning brush - sorry my first post wasn't clear about that. They do it all of the time so to me "the neighbors burning" automatically means burning brush. After DS caught up with me & Taela & we got her off the chair I went to the office & checked it out. My heart was still beating fast from all the excitement - so it was a relief to see that's all it was.

Would we list that as a "Miracle Cure"?

Rats, I don't have enough lawn chairs for all of my bloating goats. Guess they will have to take turns.

I had a bottle baby that bloated after one of her first grazing trips. She refused her bottle, I held her, rubbed her tummy and sang (off key), nothing helped. Then she got her snout into my hot tea, drank it down and an hour later was better and wanting her bottle.

Thank you for the laugh. We are at my bfs parents house and I laughed out loud and everyone looked at me like I was crazy. I looked back and said "something funny a goat did". My bf totally understood and wanted to hear the story but everyone else thinks I'm crazy Bahaha.

I get that 'look' all the time!
Sure glad things worked out and it had the added bonus of giving everyone a chuckle!

Many times, an interaction with the goats is the funniest/best part of my day. It seems like I'm not the only one. Thank you goats

Oh my! Glad Taela is okay and nothing was on fire at your place. I admit, I had to do a double take on the "It was just the neighbors burning". I was going to ask if they set themselves ablaze often or if it was just a weekend thing.
Poor Taela though, imagine trying to run after your person while being chased by an evil, goat hungry chair. It one of those things that sets your heart racing while you are dealing with it and then sends you into fits of laughter after its all over and everyone is safe. Sometimes I think laughter helps the adrenaline to dissipate.

LOL! Usually just a weekend thing- occasionally holidays and special events.

Both of us were going so fast! That goat hungry chair was hitting the ground so hard it was bouncing above her head!! To give you an idea how sturdy the chair is, the table that matches is in the goat pen as a "toy" - it has been there for 2.5 years and, other than the nanny berries, you would never guess the use it gets....
