Registering grade goats

I need info on how to get my grade/mixed breed goats verified so I can register them so I can show them. Does anyone know how I can do this or know if the person verifying them can be any member of the ADGA or does it need to be a specific person with the ADGA? I have no clue. I have a friend that has registered her goats with ADGA and is a member, I don't know if she can verify them or not..... PLEASE HELP........... the fair is coming up in August and I have to get this paperwork in and didnt realize I had to have papers on grades...... Thanks Jenn

Any ADGA member can attest to the breed standard that your does resemble.

Call ADGA and ask them exactly what and how they want the paperwork - should be pretty simple, really. (If you get stuck, call back and ask to speak to Penny ).

The Dam is really unknown probably Nubian cross, the sire is a registered Alpine but the kids all look Alpine. I have a few different one I need to get registered and they all look like Alpines.

TO: Copperpennykids: My Friend is a member of ADGA, She has her goats registered through there. So she could verify them for me....... What exactly do you mean by being a member..... signing up through the ADGA website as a member?

I mean that ADGA allows any member to attest to the breed standard that your "recorded grades/Native on Appearance" animals meet. So your friend should be able to do it. (In other words, you don't need a judge or appraiser etc.)

In your case, the goats meet Alpine breed standard (erect ears, coloring etc)

Your goats will have papers and be able to show, but their first progeny out of a registered Alpine buck would register as 50% Alpine (should you decide to continue breeding up in the Alpine category).

I would still double check with ADGA (just a phone call) so you can have all your ducks in a row. I have not registered NOA with ADGA - just read the rules and confirmed with other goatie folks via conversation.

BTW: You can not register any animal that has Boer or Kiko (or any other meat breed) mixed in, with ADGA. Big NO-NO!

If I am remembering correctly you can get NOA or not on the dam but then it would need to be bred back to a registered buck and either way the offspring are 50%. I was thinking about registering 2 of my girls NOA but was told either way offspring are only 50%.

Yep. I would just record them with the buck and leave the dam out completely. If they meet Alpine breed standard you will get 50% Brown(Recorded grade) papers. If they don't you can still get 50% Experiemental brown papers(I believe? May want to check with ADGA on that). This way you don't have to involve any one else. This assumes you own the buck and have the papers. Otherwise you are going to have to get breeding memos etc...

ADGA will only register grade does that are from a recognized dairy breed. If there is any Boer whatsoever in your grade goats, you cannot ethically register them with ADGA.

I don't know if ADGA still has the NOA program. Last I checked, I didn't see it in the most recent edition of the Guidebook. The NOP program is still in place, and if the sire is registered, the offspring can be recorded provided there is no unrecognized breed in their pedigree.

Ok now that I know how to get verification.... I need to know about the Tattoo....... I am not registered with the ADGA and do not have a registered farm name for the tattoo.
Also I have sold a doeling and they want to show her as well..... does she have to go through the same process as I do or is it easier for me to register her under my name and have them transfer or can I register her for them under their name?? Sorry this is all new to me so I appeiciate any help I can get.

You need to join ADGA and they will ask you to choose a tattoo sequence. Joining ADGA is not that expensive, and registrations/transfers are a lot cheaper if you are a member.

Is the sire registered? If neither parent is registered, it doesn't really matter whether you do it or they do it. If the sire is registered, it would probably be easier for you to do it and then transfer the doeling.
