Identify Your Goats?

My goats are my project, my hobby, my preference. They don't really matter to anyone else (in my far-flung family.) What will happen to them when I die? I would like them to be sold or given to others who will appreciate them.

How does anyone but myself know which goat is which?

I've put all the registration certificates into one binder, with dividers denoting bucks, does and younglings. Each certificate is encased in a clear sheet protector. Into each sheet protector sleeve, I placed a photo of the goat named on the registration certificate.

Do any of you have any great input to round out this fledgling idea of mine?

Loretta,
I have a similar folder. I had to add the pics with with the five Charlies, as it was so hard to keep five pieces of paper coordinated (in my head) with that flock of kids!

My grandson was here last week, and he was helping bottle feed a set of three Saanen cross kids, all white, from two dams. Cole asked if we could put name tags on them, so I put the plastic break away collars on them and bells and tags. Yes, it helps!

Also, don't forget to tell folks about your medical record sheets! It's better than what I had been doing.

Also, I'm NOT dying. Not at the moment, anyway.

I have similar binders as well, except I have mine also broke into Meat Goat, Dairy goat and Pack Goat Binders. I also have a friend who is to take them until they are sold or given to new homes. Make sure your family knows which ones DO NOT GO TO AUCTION! I do have a few that if not sold would go there, the others my family knows go to good homes.

My registration binder have each doe or buck's picture , their papers, their tattoo number, and all their health records together. My family will probably have a giant bbq if I go before the goats. They just don't understand them the way I do. With my lamanchas, it's easy, they're all different colors and patterns. I can imagine that it would be harder with saanens or oberhaslies, some breed where they all look similar. My sheep, which all look identical to an outsider, have numbered tags in one ear, which correspond to their health records.

We have a binder for our little herd of around 10 also. In fact I just had to upgrade to a larger binder as I keep so much information in there. DH and two DD's are very active with the herd and actually could do everything themselves if I weren't around. Worst case scenario, our goats are tattooed and photos are up on our website, so there wouldn't be any confusion as far as who is who.
