Trade Doeling for Polled Nubian Buckling

I emailed someone who was running a CL ad for a polled nubian buckling (and one with blue eyes too). I emailed them to see if they would want to possibly trade for one of my Saanen doelings. I was planning on selling her this fall any way, but the thought of having a polled buck in the bloodlines is rather attractive. They are interested in the trade, but was wondering if it sound like a fair trade. Even if I trade her, I still have three adult does and three other doelings, so I am not running short on girls. I am going to see him Monday, because I have to at least consider him.

If you both want the trade, then its fair. A breeding stock kid for a breeding stock kid is quite a usual trade, be they buck and buck, doe and doe or one of each.

If this polled Nubian buckling has blue eyes, then he is not all Nubian. Nubians do not have blue eyes.

Ditto what Emily said. As long as you both think it's fair then everyone's happy!

I believe Nigerians are the only breed that have the blue eye gene.

I just saw a farm in Oregon that raises polled Nubians and that polled is a genentic thing and not a breed specific thing. Also, there is someone here who has a blue eyed, able to be ADGA registered blue eyed LaMacha buckling.

I would look at the blue eyes as neat but an undesirable trait personally as its not typical of the breed. With the spotteds and the other crazy colors (which I adore) it wouldnt surprise me if one cropped up with it but Id be looking long and hard at the pedigree and the reputation of the breeder.
If you get what you want and get rid of what you dont need then its a good trade. However I feel your question is kinda lacking in depth, you should be saying hes got heavy milking lines with a dam with a nicely placed udder and his dairy characteristics are right where I want my girls to be. Polled or not if hes not better than your girls hes not worth having or can at least improve their faults.

Yes, Nubians can be polled. I was speaking of the blue eyes. In Nubians it is a disqualification. Usually means another breed(usually Nigerian) has been mixed in somewhere. Lamanchas are a different breed completely and as stated, the herdbook is still open.
I'm not trying to ruin a buy for you. I'm just trying to be sure what you are looking at is truly what they say it is.

Yep....polled can happen in any breed. I have a polled Alpine.

Blue eyes though are something I've never seen in a Nubian....Only goats I've seen with blue eyes had some Nigerian back there somewhere.

I agree with Cannon Farms post too....

Hope you have a nice farm visit & if you end up doing the trade, you must post pictures

I agree, if you are both happy with the trade, then it's a good trade.

I have never heard of a blue-eyed nubian. I have a loudly spotted nubian kid who's got gray eyes, but never seen one with blue...
