Too cute! Your goats and kids are adorable and I love the interaction. Especially Sabrina trying to clean them off, lol.

Hordes of wasps in the pool I would not want a pool then either. I hate/fear wasps. I have a special wasp scream that my family knows well. Been stung a few times for no reason and I just hate them. The chickens have done ok eating them but the guineas do a very good job. So I put up with their annoying voices and they eat the wasps I want them to get that nice big nest starting in the propane tank- shudder!

You kids look liked they had fun even if the goats did not join in

In thinking about it I am glad goats do not like water, can you imagine if they did we would have to drag them out of pools and clean water containers. They would be more pesky then they are now if they liked to swim.

I love it! We had an outbreak of wasp hatchlings last year. For a couple of days we were skimming thousands of their little dead bodies out of the pool. Then they were done and it was over.

Why wasps in the pool but not the goat water?

Thiablue.....the wasp were unreal! They are the ones we call "yellow jackets" & they are mean!

The day we finally gave up on the pool was when we left the cover off for 4 hours & came back & scooped off almost a feed bucket worth of wasp!!!! I've noticed one GREAT thing though.....the boys water trough NEVER has wasp....but the chickens share their yard so I think they are helping with that....Can't wait to finish fencing the property so the chickens can have run of the entire place!

Audra.....we have plague like wasp swarms & I have never seen the babies....only the big ones!

Jcran- The goats water gets wasp too.....but a goat water trough is a nessesity......the pool wasn't

I scoop wasp off twice every day...Two weeks ago we noticed the goats hadn't drank because of the wasp & Sabrina had wasp stings all over her neck They were having the same level of wasp as we worked up to with the pool.....Added two smaller water buckets in the pen away from the big one so they could drink.......Then we bought several cans of wasp killer & hubby, myself & my brother's went hunting wasp nest......got 16 on the back area of my property & sprayed them in the evening when most of the wasp were on them....Next day still a good deal of wasp! Then we put on heavy jeans & boots and walked through the cactus & mesquites that are heavy behind the pen.... Oh my goodness the cactus plants had several nest in the centers close to the bottom. Ended up getting 19 large nest back there!

This past week the wasp have been minimal..... I scoop off 10 or so from the trough twice a day now instead of inches thick worth, and this is the first time in 2 years I've seen just regular bees The bees don't act bothersome......nor do I see them piled up dead in the water....just a few here & there on the edge of the water on occasion....They haven't stung me either......unlike the wasp who seem much more aggressive & who I'm carrying several stings from after my wasp killing spree.....

It was labor intensive & time consuming to find all those nest....and it's not a permanent fix....we will have to do it again, but this past week has been nice to go out to the goat pen & actually see the surface of the water, not just gobs of wasp..... Next I'm going to ask my neighbor if I can go do the back of his property....he has old farm equipment, tires & other unused things sitting back there opposite the goat pen & I'm certain there are lots of nest there too & that's where wasp are coming from now.

I have a box with 12 cans of wasp & hornet spray......going to comb through the front of my property this evening, & hopefully the neighbor's property this weekend.

Depending on how often I have to go on a property wide killing spree to keep wasp numbers bearable, I may just buy stocks in wasp killer!

That is sooo cute! I love watching kids be kids and not worry about getting wet or dirty! Your blog is quite entertaining. I have read it a few times and it always makes me laugh!

Thank you

My husband's step mom wrote me on FB after reading the blog worrying about the kids picking up diseases from the goat's water & asking me not to let them do that again (which I didn't "let" them this time....just found them like that after they took a long time to take out treats to the goats )

If I was worried about them getting a disease, I wouldn't let the goats drink out of it Its emptied, & scrubbed out often so it stays fairly clean unless muddy footed children hop in it.

They also play in muddy rain puddles (also freaks out hubby's step mom).....If we lived in town & it was an accumulation of water off dirty streets I wouldn't....but a puddle in the yard on the dirt never hurt anyone......Dirt washes off & you can only be a kid once so I let them do those "gross" things & just give them a big bar of soap later

Loved all the pictures & the story you wrote along with it was great Crystal. Everyone looks so happy & the human kids are having a great time!

The yellow jackets that you call wasps are the worst, most poisonous sting too I've heard. They make me swell up something terrible & they always seem to get me. I'm real careful around & in all the goats out buildings & lean too's as well, seems like they start a nest in a day.

Sabrina is a good mommy.....she went back to clean Shayla 3 times before the kids got out...and even then she was trailing behind then sniffing & licking

And yep, that was me on the picture thread.....your definately not scary looking That thread was neat to put faces to screen names....some looked as I expected, others looked nothing like what I had pictured!

Loved the story & pictures!!! Too cute! Last year my kids went "swimming" in the horse trough on a very hot day. Then to make it through the summer, they turned an empty cattle water tub (not being used) into their own personal pool for the summer.

Thank you

Sounds like your kids & mine would get along great!

We went to TSC & the kids wanted to look for bigger water troughs..... I asked if it was for swimming...My son's reply? "Oh no momma, we want it so the goats can have lots of cool water......we might only swim in it 1 or 2 times a day.."

LOL
