So....how crazy to you have to be?

My doe is due soon (day 150 is this Thursday) and this is the first time for both of us. I've read enough threads on this board to realize that I will likely be downright batty first and THEN she will kid. So would it help if I just tell her I'm crazy enough already?? So far she isn't showing signs of anything other than her normal bossy attitude.

My barn however is about 5 miles or so from my house. I can't just run out there every 10 minutes to look at her - especially while I'm at work. When should I start sleeping in the barn? LOL

Hmm. Start sleeping in the barn tonight, and tear your hair out for the next week or 10 days. Then get back to us and let us know how much crazier you've gotten.

Doesn't matter. You can check them every 15 min and they'll still have the kid in the dirtiest spot they can find while you are in the house grabbing a sandwich.

OTOH, the one that lets you know she is in labor will keep you right at her side for the next 8 hours or so before she even starts pushing.

Either of those options wouldn't surprise me at all with this doe. She is SUCH a drama queen....but she's a sneaky little brat too!

Some of mine seem to wait until I'm at work & dh is here by himself. He say's it's because I drive them crazy checking them ALL the time that they are just waiting for me to leave.
I was here for I think 3 births this year though & I have 1 left to kid, day 150 is Friday for her.

With my Saanen does, I don't expect them to kid on day 150. I expect them to kid on day 153-154. If they go past day 155, I induce.

I had a strange dream last night (I have them frequently so it's nothing new). I won't bother with all of the details but part of the dream was about Molly. She was following me around and suddenly just squatted like she was going to pee and instead popped out 5 beautiful baby goats. They were all different colors...2 white, 1 this tannish color, and 2 black with white markings. Considering Molly is Saanen and the buck she is bred to is a solid white snubian x boer, I don't expect all that much color, nor do I expect 5 kids from her, but it was a funny dream nonetheless!
