Exclamation Milk coming out sides of udder!

OK... what do I do? I was milking my doe this a.m. and was drying off my hands frequently..as usual..and realized the milk is coming out of little tiny pores or something on the sides of her udder!!! I always thought my hands kept getting wet b/c they were slipping down past the oraphus (sp) but THERE IS MILK ON THE SIDES!!!! What is this!?! Cant that introduce bacteria with no oraphus to close again? The holes are down close to the top of the teat...there are LOTS of them!!! I kept wiping them off and trying again b/c I was IN SHOCK! There in injury, no heat, no swelling, no fever, she eats normally, and is raising her 2 beautiful doelings. IS this hereditary??? This poor doe has been passed around this area for years...I know that puts red flags up for LOTS of you...but my herd is tiny and she is the one who started it all for us. I have only her companion whither (sp) and her 2 doelings. The reason for all the passing of her around is because of her temperament. She was going to be shot by her previous owner if I didnt take her....Jeepers...no wonder the bag balm and comfrey cream seemed to react strangely.

freakin out
Jen

I have had does do this in the past. You can put some Dr. Naylors Stop a leak on the area, and it helps sometimes, sometimes no. This is actually is kind of a good thing. It shows the udder suppleness and dairy charachter, but it is a pain to deal with. It is nothing to freak out over though.

Yup, I have a LaMancha whose udder does that. Just keep it sprayed down with teat dip if you can locate the leaks.

I have and Oberhasli with the same thing. I've put a drop of super glue on it in the past but I don't mind the leak anymore.

the opening of the milk duct is in the skin around the nipple - not in the nipple. this is normal variation - happens in humans too.

If you superglue it, you will have a milk duct with no outlet. that's not good!

Yes, there may be a dimple or fold up on the side of the udder next to her thigh.

If this just came on suddenly then I would be suspicious of a little mastitis brewing from a lowered immune system. My doe did this once and I boosted her immune system with vitamin C, about 3/4 tsp. twice a day. Also vitamin E added extra along with Bo-Se, a dose of it. A mastitis test wouldn't hurt. And where you're at I'd add vitamin D 4000iu once a week as long as it's cloudy which is probably most the time. Really calcium does not absorb well if there is a D deficiency. My doe cleared up within a week with the leaking.
