My goat herd is complete

Well almost, give me a few hours. I am finally adding a Lamancha to my herd, that brings me to having at least one of every one of my favorite dairy breeds, shell be the only Lamancha but I feel content with my herd.
I have 3 Saanens now, two does and a buckling, 3 Nubians two does and a buckling and 6 Nigerians 3 does, 2 bucks and a wether which I am still trying to sell a couple of them.
I am also out of goatie debt everyone is paid for and the I gotta haves are paid off..

Life is good.

Yeah, untillllllllll..... she sees another PERFECT goat. Or these kid and she can't give/sell THAT one because it is toooooooo cute.

We all have 'been there, done that.'

Congratulations on this peaceful feeling of completeness.

I read these replies giggling because they all are saying what I was going to ask...exactly how do you tell when your herd is complete...because I am not THERE yet...so if there is some absolutely verifiable way to tell...please please please share with me.

Then we can talk about the cats...

and about my ever growing collection of cookbooks. Geez...there are not enough book shelves in the world and even if there are...they will not all fit in my kitchen. An intervention is required I think.

I travel back and forth seasonally between Texas and Missouri, and I'm *not* going to get a gooseneck trailer. Sooooo, my goats *must* fit in my 16ft bumper pull trailer.

Two bucks.

I *want* to keep the does down to three milkers, but that's hard. There's always some doelings that I have to keep and breed to see how they turn out.

REALLY hard.

A couple of summers ago, I suddenly had 21 goats when it was time to head south. Scared myself pretty badly!

What about mini Nubians, mini Saanens and mini Manchas? Surely you need some medium goats as well Canon, lol Small, medium and lage will have you pretty well covered.
Then you can wonder about Toggs, maybe some Obers and once you get those then you can wonder about not having a certain color, or solid ears vs frosted etc etc lol

Congratulations on feeling contented. Just wait until the LaMancha steals your heart, then you will start thinking that you need more

What I have is what I can take care of by myself or with minor paid help cost. With a 2 year old and my current pregnancy that isnt going as smoothy as the past ones for now its where I have to be and I am actually happy with it. I have wanted a lamancha for 2 years now, after I got over the "that goat just looks freaky" and fell in love with the elegance of the breed.
Shes a nice little doeling from Tickles me pink, I cant remember her member name for here right now but Ive been after a goat from her for about the entire two years.

But no, this is a temporary cease to increase, I do want a ober next, and of course who can just have one of anything so another lamancha wont be so far off, maybe my Christmas present.

What a great thread. I AM CLOSER to happy as I've ever been. I tried the minis, but it just didn't work for me. The last of the minis and Nigerians left last Sat. to some very nice homes.

THE ONLY THING my little herd is missing is a doeling from Tickles Me Pink. Honestly those little girls are drop-dead-gotta-have beautiful.. One day a beauti will come to live at LaCabra Farm.

We are pretty satisfied with our herd now. We just want to keep one doeling out of our Tally next spring. If everyone freshens with a nice udder we will not be adding anymore in the foreseeable future, We just don't have room for more so we would have to get rid of some to get more and can't do that right now.

Thanks Paul. Just let me know when you're ready. I have some exciting breedings planned for the fall.

Emmy is standing her ground this morning? Lol that's a first. She was at the bottom of the totem pole here. A "What everyone else says goes" kinda thing.

Oh man she chased the chickens and the pb pig off, my herd queen wasnt in there thats probably the only one she wouldnt have, shes currently at the top of the pecking order under my saanen which I dont have a bit of problem with.

She did good milking off the stand btw, kinda got a little jumpy at first then settled right in, I couldnt be more pleased with her.

I always love the Monroe show, but my priest has asked me to drive a group to Savannah. As he seldom asks me to do anything, I'll drive.

Monroe is the show where I first saw Terry's beautiful doelings... Really, Ruby was the most beautiful doeling I'd ever seen. She is still in my memory as the most dairy-looking doeling ever. There was a guy & wife from Ala that had some nice LaMancha adults. I love looking.

I want just one more PB LaMancha doe and I'm set. I'll have my Ruben for sell after he does his work in the fall. I have a very nice PB buckling coming on to be herdsire.
