Phone call today

I amswer the phone and some guy with an Amish sounding name asks, "Is this Cloven Trail Farm?" I answer, "Yes it is, Kim speaking."
He: "What kind of goats you have?"
Me: "We raise Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats."
He: "Do you have any REAL dairy goats?"

Me: "Nigerian Dwarves ARE real dairy goats, they are recognized by the American Dairy Goat Association. We milk them and use the milk everyday."
He: "Well how much do they give a day?"
Me: "I'm getting anywhere from a pint from the first fresheners to a bit over a quart from a 2nd and 3rd freshener but I only milk in the morning right now. You could expect about a quart to a half gallon a day on average depending on genetics, what they're fed, and other things."
He: "How much are your goats?"
Me: "Most of my does start at $300."
He: "Can you guarantee me at least a half gallon a day? I can probably get by on that."

Me: "No I cannot guarantee any kind of production on any doe especially once they leave me farm. There are too many variables that affect milk production and every doe is different. Let me suggest you find a standard size dairy goat or two for you milk needs. I don't really think Nigerian Dwarves would suit your purposes"
And I politely directed him elsewhere. :happy0035: I couldn't help but be a little amused.

LOL!!!! It must be the season, because I, too, got a strange call today for someone wanting a milk goat... She was shocked that you just can't milk them when you feel like it... like once a week!

Oh my goodness, once a week! LOL

And what was that guy thinking, a small goat would naturally give a small amount of milk.

KimM you're very kind. I would have lost it at the 'real dairy goats' remark he made.

Hmmph...thanks for the redirect.
"Is this Rose?"
Um, it's Roseanna.
At the end of the conversation- "Thanks, Rose."
At least he called me "Roseanne" the next day when he followed up.
I couldn't help him either, unfortunately. More requests for does in milk than we are willing to sell this year.
Wish most of those doelings in my signature were actually dairy and not Boer.

you know, if you got a dozen goats, bred them all to kid in different months, and left the kids on them - you could milk when you wanted - just grab a set of kids between 2 and 8 weeks, pen 'em up for 12 hours, and ta-da - milk!

lol!
