I finally got to see the birth!

I have only witnessed one birth and it was a very deformed kid (last year). I planned to clean the house today and thought..."hmmm...better take one more look at Shiloh". I went out there and she was having contractions. Less than an hour later we have 2 little bucklings. It was so cool to actually watch her do her thing and I really didn't have to help. I did finish cleaning the first one off while the 2nd one was on his way out. I love babies from this goat because I always get something different. I have lost one twin from each set (3 total) this year..2 at less than a week old and one at 9 weeks old (this week). I don't get it...seem perfectly healthy and and then dead. I hope to have better luck with these little guys. All in all it's been a good kidding season...wish I had ended it with twin doelings...but oh well...all the rest were girls.

Don't you love mis-matched ears!

Cute kids. Good birth.

I was really hoping to get these ears . It's been awhile since I've had the elf/gopher ears around here

These are 1/8 shy of being full nubian...is that right Roseanna? The dam is 7/8 nubian 1/8 lamancha. The sire is full nubian.

Shiloh is 7/8 Nubian, 1/8 LaMancha/Alpine. So the babies are only 1/16th LaMancha/Alpine. It can take some time to breed out those ears...lol I find I have preferred the udders on the does from that line with those ears over their eared sisters. Though I did keep Shiloh's twin, Genevieve, and do like her udder. It takes after the eared udders though and not the elf eared udders.
