Lump on doe...please calm me down!

Today, we decided to give our goats a long overdue haircut and bath. The first doe on the stand is a 5 year old Alpine. As my son is doing the trimming, he calls me over to look at a lump on her side. I immediately felt sick! I told him to avoid that area and finish her up. Next goat on the stand is another Alpine doe (3 years old) that we got from the same farm, at the same time as doe #1. They also share a pen. We looked her over good and found a scab or healing wound. All other goats are clear of any lumps.
When we got them we didn't know much and didn't ask the right questions (testing, etc.).

We have owned them for a little over 2 years and never had anything like this. We have learned a lot since then and every goat we have brought here since we got them, has been from tested herds. I am really sick about this. The only stupid thing we did was gave CD&T injection in that area. Right after we gave them I read somewhere that you shouldn't give injections there because of the possibility of lumps that could be mistaken for CL. Oh well, too late now.

I called the vet, but they were gone for the day so I will call first thing in the morning. Anyone care to look at these photo's and tell me what they think? I know the best think to do is test the lump but I am freaking out here!

Thank you!

My guess is CDT shot abscess. It often forms knots that can burst if it isn't placed all the way under the skin.

To be safe, however, I would still have it tested.

If it abcesses and bursts then some contamination got in the injection site and it needs re done. The injection site needs cleaned well with alcohol before injecting. This has happened to me and Vicki at Dairy Goat Info says it needs re done.
It looks like an injection cyst to me also,

BOTH my goats have CD&T injection "lumps" on their necks from their very first vaccinations years ago before I knew better how to give these thick-skinned goaties their shots! I would be very inclined to agree that those are injectin-site irritations and not CL, but testing always gives piece of mind.

Thank you all! I think I will be able to sleep tonight.

Just a few weeks ago, I received the tubes, etc. to do the blood draws. I have been trying to get up the nerve to actually do it. I guess this is my kick in the behind. I will still get this lump tested by the vet tomorrow, though.

I really do appreciate you all reassuring me. I love these girls and can't stand fathom the thought of being without them!

Thanks, again!
Shar
